And in contrast, over on the 6 nations with the ref miked up so you can hear every word said to the players, following the collapse of a scrum: ref, “Gentlemen, that is not what we agreed”. Players look suitably sheepish.
Every decision he made was explained courteously with zero back chat from the players. Football could be like that too if there was a will.
I agree, but when yer get thickos from Norris Green running around a pitch they are only interested in one outcome - every free kick, pen, throw in, corner, goal kick has to go their way, or they are into the kind of agricultural (sorry, you farmers!) language that the VAR proponents are so keen for us to avoid hearing! They will also tell us that we shouldn't be trying something that removes the 'passion' from the game. I always thought passion was something that emerged when something had been done well, or you had bought into the very spirit of the game. Too few footballers would have the self control. Just look at any corner - there's more skulduggery than yer'd find in all the rugby scrums last weekend.

In RU, backchat is penalised by awarding a penalty ten yards forward from the initial indiscretion. It can also be penalised by a yellow card which means 10 minutes in the sin bin. Bad behaviour can be penalised.

And if you do penalise poor behaviour it has a tendency to stop. The FA has attempted to get to grips with players over the years who have ignored certain aspects of what the LotG required. One example was that players had to retire immediately ten yards at a free kick or face a booking. The wall facing a free kick in a game, I forget which, was booked - all of 'em,I think, all seven. The outcome? The ref got a bollocking!

And I remember D'Urso running backwards for nigh on fifty yards in an attempt to escape a charging MANUre group. I can't remember what 'sanctions' ensued either during the game or after but it just about typified the mealy-mouthed, weasely way in which football is governed and officiated.

spot on. Absolutely cowardly officiating. It wont improve until there is a complete shake up of how refereeing services are provided.

What a leader. His impact seems to be the same as when he came to City. We were all over the place in 20/21, then he came and we were a defensive wall for the rest of the season.
