I do think its better that pep eased him back into the games since his injury. Last year we rushed him back in and he ended up being out with the same injury. But hes fit and back to his best now which is important to this team.

I also think it might be the start of the stones dias partnership when stones returns. Because i didnt think it was a coincidence that pep fetched on akaji and moved ruben accross as well as ake rather than laporte on and just move ake

Wasn't great today for me. I liked his forward passing, he's probably the weakest of all our centre backs in that regard and whilst a few weren't great and could have been dangerous with better opposition, some were very good and got us going, pleasing to see him take responsibility in the absence of stones or laporte to do it.

There was a time where they broke in the first half down our right and Dias hesitated to go across to the ball, looked behind him to see ake outnumbered 2v1 in the box and still decided to go across, thought that was a really poor decision, only a poor cross straight to ederson stopped what should probably have been a goal, wasn't great for the goal either and a few times he wasn't up with the defensive line. I'm happy to see him back in the side, had an aura that improves the rest of the defence but needs to be better and sharper than that as we play better opposition.

We're so much better defensively with him in the team. But - no disrespect to Akanji who has on the whole done pretty well - I think we go up another level if we can get Stones or Laporte alongside him.

His defending was ok I thought but some of his passing was awful along with a few others today.

That post was from the Bournemouth game not today. Thought he was solid today, his physicality really shone through, no body was getting by him, made sure the entire defence was on it too and dragged Akanji through the game who lacks that backs to the wall we're keeping a clean sheet at all costs mentality.
