30 years ago today

Remember full Radio coverage all the way down the M6 of the Strangeways riot. Then Bluemoon being banged out by the hordes all afternoon. First time I can remember it being sung so loud.

Not quite - that came in a few months later I think. However, it was the weekend of the famous riots against the Poll Tax
Correct the day after the riots.
City fans taking advantage of the game being live and chanting throughout singing "you can stick the fucking poll tax up your arse...." And "we're not paying the poll tax, we're not paying the poll tax na na na na, na na na na..."

Things you never heard that often..."Great work by Adrian Heath"

Also, Tony Daley was like the proverbial off the shovel and was unplayable on his day. Cue City putting one of the slowest right footed players at left back to combat him. And Harper had him in his pocket all game. It was a brilliant performance by him that day.

I remember Daley scoring a great solo goal for Villa at Maine Road in the 80s, never really seemed to consistently hit the heights he was capable of on his day.

Also, am i imagining or did we remain unbeaten during the Strangeways riots?

I sat in the Trinity Road stand with my mate who was at University there and his Dad, who I travelled with to meet him. Great day with brilliant support from the boys and the first time I really heard 'Blue Moon' take off. As I recall lots of City came in just before kick-off and really made for a great atmosphere - anti-poll tax songs were loud and clear! Think 'The Power' by 'Snap' was number 1 and it was a bit of a tune when you'd just won a big game.

I was just thinking the same about ‘Blue Moon’. Its first big airing that day, from my point of view at least.

Bluemoon started at Liverpool IIRC on the first day of the season.

I'm pretty certain it was the start of that season.
