Ederson is a unique player it's almost like he was born to be part of this city generation, he needs us we need him. No conventional keeper would "fit" the way we set up to play . It's all about the distribution and the defence limiting the amount of chances the opposition create, if the defence are on their game then Eddie doesn't have to make saves simple as that, it's a strategy that has its risks and there is always room for a cock up, but overall it works .

We all know the above , we all watch City week in week out , we sometimes just forget that Eddie is unique in the goalkeeping world , you only have to see lesser managers and goalkeepers trying to recreate our distribution and playing out from the back and most failing .

what a match winning save that was yesterday. As important as Kev's free kick.
I'll just say that again, a match winning save by Eddie.

And for those that wish he was as good at shot stopping as Alisson, did you see Leeds winner? He got a strong hand to it after all.

He was brilliant on Saturday. Huge saves and helped win us the game. The issue I have with Ederson is in big games where I think he can sometimes be a little bit too casual. I've mentioned before the Real Madrid game at home where he was choosing to play tricky passes rather than keep it simple. He played a ball out wide to Stones when a simpler pass was on. Stones tried to keep it in rather than let it go out of play and it went straight to Real Madrid. That starts to put a nervousness in the players and crowd unnecessarily. Shot stopping he's excellent. Not as good as Allison generally, but he's much better with his feet and ultimately, I wouldn't want anyone else between the sticks for us. The way he plays the game is just exceptional - the ball to Aguero years ago when he scored and that one for Haaland. Whenever I watch other teams and see their keeper it reminds me how blessed we are.

Of the last 26 penalties he's faced for city, he's conceded 25 and saved 1. shocking tbh.

Actually an even more shocking stat is that of the 31 penalties (not in shootouts) that he's faced for city, not a SINGLE one was missed. 27 went in and 4 were saved. in 5.5 years! that's incredible

Gone completely unmentioned how important he was today. A huge part of the reason we were still able to dominate with 10 men was because we basically used ederson as the 10th available man in possession. We dropped deeper than usual to open up the pitch and played out across our box with ederson very much involved and able to ping it to the gaps when they pressed right on us. There's zero chance we dominate like we did today without him.

I wish our goalkeeping coaches could persuade him to stay still for a fraction longer when facing pens, he flops to one side too soon.

It’s strange because he has it in his locker to stay still - wasn’t he the first to save a Jorginho penalty in that 2019 Carabao Cup final?

Since then there’s no confidence he’ll save one. Opposite of Hart who I thought he’d somehow save every penalty he faced!

I think our atrocious penalty record has led to our fans thinking that every penalty against us should be saved / missed. The reality is that Eddie's penalty record is pretty much par if not slightly better than his peers. He has a better save % than average - 3/20 in the prem after yesterday = 15% (given 12% of premier league pens are saved).

The link above is from 2021 and he has faced 2 more pens in the prem since then.

In the CL, he has saved 3/12 penalties for city.

All the above excludes shootouts.

I don't know where you got that latter data from. He saved 3/20 in the league, 1/9 in the CL, 0/1 in the FA cup and 0/1 in the community shield, for a total of 4/31. It's a bad record. And again, 25 out of the last 26.

Not saying I expect penalties to ever be saved but it is an accumulative weakness of his. I'd be interested to watch all of them back and see how many of the takers stutter before they hit it because Ederson does really seem to telegraph which way he's going to go.
