Ake passed it to Nunez, who was 1 on 1 with Eddie. All he could do is come out and try to cut the angle, limit his options. Any keeper in the world would go out to that. Without him coming out, it would have been 1-1 even without a chance to save a pen. He was late because Ake's pass to Nunez was perfect for them.

The fact this thread is busier than the Ake one tells me all about favouritism within our fanbase. Ake responsible for the 5th goal this season, and Ederson is having a brilliant season and saved us multiple times, but somehow he is getting the blame.
You can come out without kicker the striker pal.

I love him as a character, but I think if Pep were leaving this summer and the new guy decided he wanted a normal number 1 keeper, I don’t think I’d be that upset.

He’s probably still an overall benefit, but I’m tired of seeing the same old mistakes over and over again. He’s not even trying to address the weaknesses in his game, which is why he’ll never be the best keeper in the world.

Having said that Aké gets 75% of the blame, Eddie 25%.
Aké was a really poor technical mistakes but those things happen tbf. Eddies was just reckless and stupid which is a big difference for me.

Love the guy. Adore him. Wouldn’t change him for anybody.

But he needs to realise that those 50/50 challenges don’t need to be so full blooded. No need to absolutely boot that today when he was getting near it.

Poor pass from Ake ultimately, though.

He had a decent game today and is having a wonderful season. It's not his fault Ake made a perfect pass to Nunez. The silence in the Ake thread is very telling. 5th goal on Nathan this season, and how many are on Ederson? I can only think of the one against Copenhagen.

You can come out and try to narrow the angle but don’t go so fast that you go cannot stop and you go hellbent into the opposing player. Last weekend he did exactly the same thing but just about got enough on the ball not to give away the penalty. Go back to the goalkeepers like Schmeichel and when he came to close down a player that’s all he would do unless he was damn sure he got the ball. Not many times would he give away a penalty. Perhaps our goalkeeping coaches need to be looking at why Ederson continues to do this.

How is anyone blaming Ederson??

It was a terrible pass from Ake. He kicked it like he was out for a Sunday stroll.

Ederson had to try and get the ball.
Anyone with 2 eyes could see Nunez would get first (Ederson was not even close to getting there first), so if you go kicking it is a 100% penalty. He didn't try anything, because it was obvious he couldn't get there in time. Then regroup and close the angle. You went from a 20% goal to a 100% (because Ederson doesn't save penalties).
