31 | Ederson - 2024/25

The assumption on here he should be saving penalties is just crazy. Penalties by their very design are meant to heavily favour the taker and not meant to be saved. The two pens tonight were well taken, nobody saves them. He saved us 1v1 a couple of times tonight, had no chance with any of the goals. He's the reason why it was only a 4-1 thumping and not a humiliating 6-1.

My friend I don't think you understand the HUGE difference between 78% (the expected percentage of converting a penalty) and 97% (the expected percentage of converting a penalty against ederson). you are talking saving 1 out of 33 and saving 7 out of 33.

The goals conceded were not in any way Ederson’s fault. The score line however with us only scoring one goal at the other end is why it is a thumping. The match should have been all over at half time. So bloody frustrating.

There's no getting anyway from the fact his penalty stats are abysmal, whether that's all down to him or he's unlucky in that the quality of the opposition penalties are higher than the norm. The fact remains that anytime we concede a pen it's near enough a certain goal with him between the sticks.

He is saving us from open play quite regularly but I'm guessing that's just more noticeable just due to sheer amount of chances we're giving away currently.
