31 | Ederson - 2025/26

I'm not sure any of their four goals were keeper howlers as such, but the shots-to-goals ratio is a bit alarming. When Malcolm raced through for their second, I knew he would score as soon as he was one-on-one with Ederson. I'm still glad that he's staying, as he's very important to the way we play, but wouldn't be averse to a new keeper coming in to compete for the number 1 slot in his last season, and allow Ortega to leave.

I’m sorry but parry it anywhere but the middle of the goal. Both keepers not at the required level.
From the angle he was at i don’t think he could send it wide. Think he had to try to hang on to it or get power on it. He tried to get it away but it hit a City player. I’m not even particularly trying to defend him but don’t think he was the reason we lost. I’d much prefer a keeper like Alison who’s adequate with his feet and a brilliant shot stopper. As we know though Pep doesn’t see it that way and it’s not worked out too badly overall.

The first goal he could have held the low cross instead of pushing it into danger. He wasn't stretching and it wasn't that hard.

Second, the only blame is to the defence (or the setup). Good finish.

Third.... I think a top keeper gets their fingers to that header instead of waving at it as it goes past.

Fourth... I think he's unlucky tbh.

I'm trying to be objective and fair, I think that is. I think saying he could do nothing about any is being kind. I think Courtois, Donnarumma and a good few other top keepers save that header.
Can see where you’re coming from with the first goal but disagree on the header. No doubt they’ll be plenty of goals next season though that aren’t directly his fault but a world class shot stopper may well have produced some brilliance to stop a goal going in.

Carlo Nash would have saved it mate

Yeah that's fair.

I think with all the praise PSG got for their CL final performance, people forget that they a major part in them getting there was some brilliant goalkeeping performances in earlier knockout rounds. Very rare we get anything like that - although tbf Ederson had some much better performances in the last few games of the season the help us qualify for the CL this season.

A bunch of ricochets that provided them with a tap in, a 1v1, a strong header from 6 yards out and a shot he made a very good save thats unfortunately been bundled in. What were you expecting to be different there?
Koulibaly's header would've been saved by the other goalie on the pitch for one.

Would a world class keeper be looking to come in and compete with a gk as established as Ederson? When he would likely go in unchallenged at another club as their number one? No top class keeper wants to sitting on the bench for most of the season. I suppose there's more liklihood of that, since as you say, Ederson probably has just got a year left.

I’ve never seen a player look less arsed than him.

He was superb when we didn’t let teams breathe and were scoring goals from all angles at breakneck speed, because he was able to recycle the ball quickly or could draw an attacker forward and take him out of the game and he could also pick a pass.

In a team like we had last season and some of the year before where we’re slow and allow teams to counterattack us he’s a liability. Twice he parried into the area last night and it cost us both times. The one on one was always going to end up in the net. He also should have come for the corner that koulibally scored. It’s on the 6 yard line. He is absolutely not the type of goalkeeper we need anymore.

His shots to goals conceded ratio is surely one of the worst in the league and whilst it’s not all down to him he should be stopping more than he does. He has more 5/10 performances than 8 or 9/10 in my opinion.

Fundamental role of a keeper is to keep the ball out of the net. If he couldn’t pass where would he be playing? Great servant for us but Ortega number 1 until summer

No it wouldn't. No one is saving that. All 3 of our goals scored were more saveable than any of the goals we conceded.
I'd say Bono would've saved it, it wasn't in the corner but Ederson's positioning and footwork was non existent.

It wont happen but needs replacing. He was a perfect fit for us when teams just sat back and let us have the ball, but now we have lost our fear factor and every team attacks us, he just isnt that great of a shot stopper. Of the last 8 shots on target he has faced, 6 have ended in goals and this is on top of how often a first shot on target is a goal against us in the PL.
He is not helped by an awful defence in front of him or Peps crazy high lune with slow players tactics but their keeper kept them in the game last night, ours may as well have not been there.

That was an abysmal save straight to an attacker. "strong header" which he didn't even bother diving for because his positioning was so poor. A 1v1 which he did poorly on due to bad positioning and "a bunch of richochets" instigated by him parrying a simple cross straight at his defender.

Those were the only 4 actions he was called upon and he failed every single one.

Did I do it right?

People have rightly expressed their concern about us conceding and being caught on a counter. Imagine having a keeper that actually made saves to dig you out the shit during them times.....

Is or was, that's the question, I'm leaning towards was, he's been on the decline for 18 months now, I think we need a change.

I just don’t think he likes to dive. Which is madness. If he thinks he can’t get there, he just stands still - that Bono save last night against Savinho is a brilliant example of a keeper not giving up. Eddie seems to give up on a few goals and he seems flat footed an awful lot.

It absolutely would have been. A half arsed look at it from ederson who pulled his hand rather than even try.

I won’t fault him for the other goals like others but that was so poor.
