33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

LB to LCM....

Whose to say he doesn't partner Haaland as the striker?

When Doku is fit, I dont think it has to be rotation between Doku and O Reilly, ideally, we play our best players, and id want both to start if possible.

Or Doku slots in Marmoush spot, but very little difference there.

Fancy wanting to buy Elliott Anderson when you have this lad!!!
I don’t think 2 are mutually exclusive, although they could end up with some competition for place and unfortunately Nico would be the easier of the 2 to drop due to the Elliot’s price.

That said yesterday he wouldn’t have been and Elliot would have Bernardo’s place (as much as I would like him to get 1 more year).

I feel the signing of Guehi really pushes Nico into midfield in the long term as well with Al-Nouri and Gvardiol sharing LB.

That said I do get what you mean that we might have as good a player in Nico.

It’s where he ended up against Newcastle in the second half as a secondary target man for Donnarumma’s long balls.

He is what we thought we would get in Reinjders
Totally forgot about Reijnders throughout Saturday's game, until you mentioned him there.

O'Reilly has gone under the radar a bit I think and isn't getting the hype or credit that he deserves. Which may not be a bad thing.
Scored in the Bernebau, scored two in a big game on Saturday, can play left back DM or in the no. 10 role.

Some player

I think O'Reilly is one of those strokes of good fortune that a top manager comes across only a few times in their career.
Its not so long ago that it was discussed would Nico go on loan, would he be sold, what was his best position.
Then along comes a cup match where Khusanov is taking off at half time , regular LB Gvardiol is switched to CH and Nico O Reily comes in at LB and totally changes the match.
Gvardiol stays at CH for the rest of the season and Nico continues at LB , putting in top performances for the rest of the season.
This season Nico still playing very well but then moved to midfield due to injury crisis at club plus return of Ait Nouri from Afcon. Looks like he has nailed that position too.
It highlights how much a player needs to take maybe the only one or two opportunities that come along at the highest level.
OReilly has certainly done that and hopefully that can be seen by Pep and the younger players at the academy who are also trying to make that breakthrough

This guys is England's best left back and England’s best midfielder, and of. Unfortunately he won’t be able to shine because of the media bias of Rice and Bellingham when infact he can do everything they can both do combined into one

Tuchel is a results driven man and doesn't care one toss about the press/ media and he won't be influenced by them.
If he feels O Reilly is best fit for the team, he will play him.

I recall a few years ago him making up the numbers on USA pre season and thought no chance. Player of the season easily. Keep a vague eye on youth players where he seemed promising not outstanding

Agree on that. Tuchel wants whats best for Tuchel - he wont give a fuck about pissing people off

I can’t wait until the game slows down for him a bit. Right now I think he still has that early Foden thing where he plays 100mph all the time, and that’s part of why he’s so incredible, but in another 50 games I expect he’ll be able to slow things down as well when it’s needed and pick out a through ball and start dictating things too.

The sky really is the limit, and it’s so exciting to think where he might be in 18 months time.

It blows my mind how level headed he is at his age. He will captain this club at some point. He’ll get 15-20 goals next year, while still playing left back for England. Build the midfield around him, he has to be the priority. Yaya levels will be reached.
Wait, what? The kid is good, but that's a stretch
