33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

O'Reilly suffers from a technical weakness when facing his own goal and receiving the ball on his right hand side

He's too open and exposed and leaves his teammates vulnerable to a rapid counter attack

He just needs to get himself more sideways-on rather than just wafting at the ball with his left foot

I think hes a good wafter

I think he’s looking a bit leggy. He’s played a lot and now he’s moved into midfield, he’s not get much in the way of a breather within games. He could probably do with a rest but I’m not sure we can afford for him to have one.
He did just comeback from a slight injury didn’t he?

He will learn he's still only twenty.

The boy is still learning and tonight will be a real eye opener for him.
Poor positioning against Champions league team often leads to a goal.
His player has scored à hat trick.
Head up though. Learn and get better.

Set up all wrong - however he’s been central to all three goals we’ve conceded with shocking defending , loafing around, especially the first two goals.
He’s defending has been a liability since the same thing happened with the late Chelsea equaliser at home

Poor tonight but really he isn't a defender, despite him playing left back for us to plug a hole.

Really no reason for having him at left back when Ait Nouri is available. All that proves is we are not signing players we trust.

For months, a friend of mine has been telling me that O'Reilly is excellent offensively but mediocre defensively and too naive, constantly leaving space for the opposing winger. He gave me several examples, but I turned a blind eye.

Today, it's clear he was absolutely right, and I was the one who was wrong. He already made a poor defensive error on Rodrigo's goal in November, and tonight he's done it again, getting completely outplayed by Valverde.

Rotating him between CM and LB is not feasible at such a young age.

Pep is also playing him an insane amount, its way too much info and physical stress, too quickly.

That May have cost him a starting place at the World Cup. All at sea for the first goal and then got bullied when moved into midfield. Think we forget he is still mid. His time will come and he will learn from this.
