33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

Really hope this is just O'Reilly's agent putting pressure on the club to give him assurances about his role/future. Would be very disappointing to sell another academy talent. I'd be surprised if the club were willing to countenance a sale, given the homegrown requirements for the squad.

I agree that he should get game time. What does that look like though? To me, a player like Nico would be a starter in the cup games and receive increasing minutes as a sub in PL games. He may want more than that. If he shows in the cup games and substitute games that he is better than other players then yes, during this season he will command more minutes.

We have to be mindful that agents and players use social media to further their cause regarding contract settlements. I hope he stays, and earns that game time because my favourite part of football is the development of young players.
I’d sell Kovacic and Gundogan. Then he’d become 3rd or 4th choice in midfield and get plenty of game time. Why not just trust him? Otherwise are we just going to run players like Rodri into the ground.

And then when he shows form and he plays well start him in the next game. Thats a pathway to more game time.

I’m not convinced Nouri is that good at defending, so he could start at left back more than we think as well, but who knows

If it’s true and he’s allowed to leave while Gundo (and Kova, as much as I like them both) is kept, it’d be an abomination from Viana.

So much so, I just can’t see it happening. Unless he forces a move away.

Fuck me how entitled has some of our fanbase become.
In what respect, i think we can be respectful of gundo, kdb, silva etc etc and know what they have brought us but also know that father time remains undefeated, they are unfortunately on the decline and if we keep using them at the expense of people who have the potential to get better then it will be to the detriment of the clubs present and future as good as those players are nobody can be bigger than the club.

feels like the nico situation the other week

We made a rod for own back really with the if a players want to go they can!

Sorry O’Reily has three years left he is 20 any other top team just keeps him and just tell him we need you you going nowhere! That’s to every player for me those players signed the contract Man City pay there wages so we are in control or should be! If he had 1 year left and won’t sign a new contract fair enough just like McAteer! Come on here is 20 years old! Rags had players around the squad till there 25/26 before they move on! Maybe city happy to let him go and get the money maybe they seen a 17/18 year old in the youth team who will be knocking on the door in a year or two!

Basically no city academy player is willing to wait for minutes, because they know they will start somewhere else. It's a bit of a tough position for the club, but at the same time playing hardball and letting them go every time they do this hasn't worked either.

Why would you blame Viana?! Isn't it on Pep to give O'Reilly reassurance? Viana could tell him anything he wanted to hear, but it's Pep that picks the team

No, it will be a decision taken, by Pep, the coaches and Viana. Everything will be taken into consideration, how much they think he'd play, who else is staying or going, which clubs want to loan him ,what guarantees they are giving.Which senior players are leaving or not leaving.Only then will they make any decisions on who is loaned and who stays.Based on a thought out plan.

We're coming off the back of winning zero trophies, conceding our most goals in 15 years and looking a shadow of our former selves.

With a squad bloated with old has-beens, injury prone has-beens and a bunch of never-will-bes.

But yeah, carry on clinging to former glory while the club sell off the best academy talent whilst continuing to flush money down a toilet labelled "Gestifute."

No it's not all doom and gloom, yeah we were really good a couple of years ago, but the club have handled the recruitment fucking awfully in the last few years.

So forgive me for not being happy about us losing local talent for the sake of bringing in a bunch of journeymen who aren't suitable to lace the boots of those who came before them.

Fucking hell, it's just a newspaper rumour.

other than players like Bernardo who we’ve kept on and said we aren’t selling. Do you honestly think if Haaland this summer said he wanted to leave we’d let him go?

Other teams in the main keep their top players or if it’s their best young player, they give them a path into the first team.

If we’re selling our best academy player, who genuinely could be a top player there’s something not right. Keep Gundogan and Kovacic, but sell off our future and don’t give him any assurances about more minutes..it’s makes no sense

Yes if Madrid offered the amount what we want we would let them go! Silva had a 50m you can go fee for last few years no one offered it

Fucking hell, it's just a newspaper rumour.

It's becoming bloody mental on here with everyman and his dog going into panic mode.

There are 5-6 weeks left of the transfer window yet some appear to think it is only 5-6 minutes and we must act instantly.

Perhaps the heatwave has got to some.

That wasn't my point. If O'Reilly wants assurances it's only Pep that can truly give him that - as it's Pep that picks the team. Viana can give him lip service, but if it's assurances on playing time then it's on Pep.

IF he then decides to move on, yes it's down to the whole team.

I don’t agree. We wouldn’t sell Haaland and others just because we’d been offered a high amount. We’d make it incredible difficult for him to leave and assure him he was a big part of the side.
