37 Away Games Without A Win Run Ends…

Missed the Wolves Cup game through work but it was typical of City's unpredictability that the two games that book-ended the League run were a 2-0 win at Spurs who finished 3rd that season and the 4-2 at Bradford who were top and unbeaten. In between we lost matches to some really poor teams. The pits was probably a 4-0 hammering at Leicester, who were relegated with us.
Yep think they had Alan Smith up front that day and McAllister in midfield who both scored, but still went down. Smith had already signed for Arsenal iirc but they loaned him straight back, that type of deal is now banned in this country I think, though not abroad as with Jesus and Alvarez

Yes that was the pits.
I also remember being at Filbert St for a goalless draw where Lineker missed a penalty if my memory serves me right

Don’t know for sure if this is true but my mate always used to reckon that the first leg of this tie was the only time City ever lost a game at Maine Road to a 4th Division team.

What I do know was it was pretty much the game that did for Eric Nixon’s City career.

My other recollection was that Wolves had rioted at Scarborough on the first day of the season and were on a ban for away fans. But they’d come down earlier in the week and the ticket office had happily sold them about a thousand for the North Stand.
They had just signed a young lad on a free from West Brom who I think scored that night, went by the name of Steve Bull…

Remember McNab missing a last minute pen at I think Shrewsbury and the City end singing “Will we ever win away?”
I went to that with the London Supporters Club lot on the train. Spent the first 20 mins of the game in the pub we were that bad. Think it got a bit better after that. Was that the Swindon 4-3 win season? Good day out that one from memory!

Yes, Chelsea did the same with Clive Wilson that season.

You surprise me Gary. I always had the idea that you'd been going to aways long before 1981.

Not saying you're an FOC, just that when it comes to City, you seem to have been 'part of the furniture' for years!

;-)
I’ve been going to home games since I was a baby. Parents used to take me and my first dateable memory of being at Maine Rd was Marsh’s debut when I was 5, but I didn’t go away until Francis’ debut in 81.
