No-one is worse than Mangala.
Correct. Particularly for the money. Red cards, own goals, assists for the opposition and, contrary to many people’s predictions, was equally as bad everywhere he went. Barely a footballer.

Phillips was a footballer at least. Lost his confidence and never recovered.

Good point about Mangala, his career went downhill fast, but couldn't it also be said that maybe his time at City killed his confidence?

Very much dispute Phillips being a footballer. How many good Premier League seasons has he had, for any club?

Once voted best England player at the Euros I think.

That's a video of a player who can hit a long ball to a player in space if he's given plenty of time. I still can't believe nobody wondered how good he is in tighter spaces before we bought him.

Yeah, I noticed that too. He is a footballer, but a poor one. He simply doesn't think fast enough for the requirements of City's game. Never did.

Mangala, for me, was an impostor. Different kettle of fish. Decent athlete, maybe, who created the illusion in one match (and by the way, Costa had off days against plenty of defenders in his time) that he was a footballer.

He was. He did okay for England.

But there are a couple of other things that influenced that vote.

1. Expectation levels. If (eg) Sterling or Kane gave a 7/10 performance people would say it's not good enough and we need more. People were pleased if Phillips did a 7/10.
2. Club rivalries. Eg. Fans of Arsenal wouldn't vote for a Spurs player. Nobody was that bothered about Leeds, a Leeds player being there was a bit of a novelty.

To be fair to Phillips and the club (although I'm not going to care enough to try and work out the dates of these things), a few years ago there was a distinct tactical shift by teams playing against us.

There was a point where teams started to go man to man all over the pitch, which led to us buying Nunes, Kovacic and Doku - all players who are comfortable turning and running with the ball and taking on their man. Phillips never had that in him.

Possible the club were planning to stretch play wider and Phillips may have had room, but then tactics shifted and he always had a player on his back in that area.

Maybe not, but Bony was a huge disappointment. Traffic cone up front. Just nothing to contribute.
Mangala, Bony and Philipps.
All 3 of them had an injury/ illness and never seemed to recover.
None of them may have been good enough for us at any stage in their City career but mentally they seem to be adversely damaged.
Bony had malaria but the other 2 had injuries that is common enough among footballers.

We've not even mentioned Stefan Jovetic, Scott Sinclair, or Jack Rodwell yet....

Technically he was signed during Thaksin Shinawatra's era but Tal Ben Haim is up there.

Didi Hamann was absolutely shite for us. Bad mouthed us non-stop since he's left as well.

Didn't he smash his car up pissed?
