So he does fuck up occasionally

Txiki and Marwood have wasted a very serious amount of money over the years, not just on a few 'poor' players (Mangala, Bony, Jovetic, etc), but in more recent times, through overpaying fees and salaries (i.e. Grealish, Phillips). Our current wage bill is obscene in my opinion.

It's easy to spend someone else's money.

You buy 10 players and 6 are hits that's a good return and our average is higher! When it's higher it's easier to pick out the bad buys! Concentrate on the quality buys we have bought!

Yet they seem to baulk at what they think it paying ‘over the odds’ for first class proven players

No doubting that they've signed a good number of quality players, but they've spent absolute top dollar on most signings (meeting over-inflated release clauses for Sterling, Mahrez and Grealish). Strangely, they pulled out of big money deals when faced with real competition (Sanchez, Alves, Cucarella, Kane, Maguire, Rice, Bellingham etc)

They were also firmly in the market for Johnny F*ckin Evans and fake Ronaldo. (Enough said)

The curate's egg. Just like most clubs with money.

Hindsight- at the time he was player of the euros. Now we know it was a bad bad buy!

In reality he wasn't though. It was one of those cases where there was lesser expectations of a player, so if they do something half right it gets praised. In comparison, if any of the 'big name' players did something half right they were criticised.

He did pretty well though, that's true. Aided by playing in a defensive lineup with defensive tactics and being responsible for a small area of the pitch. Miles away from how we play and the demands we have on that role.

We are never getting rid of this guy. He is crap when he plays and injured the rest of the time.
