4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

He spoiled us early doors and now he’s having to grind against 5-4-1 teams who are killing the space in which he’s trying to perform.

I’d bet his work rate and stats are strong, but the flashes of speed cutting the lines and brilliant shooting haven’t shone through more recently, as we have had to grind out results.

He is going to be an excellent first team player for many years, but when everyone is fit, he’s going to have to be at his best to secure a spot in the Starting XI…which is a brilliant problem for Pep to have, because I think TR is a Rolls Royce.

Not sure where he’s supposed to be playing, looks to occupy similar areas to Foden.

Put a shift in defensively at least today.

Going to seem like I've got it in for him as I say it every week but the guy is not an 8 for us.

We looked so much more combative and controlled once bernardo replaced him. We happened to score at the exact same time so it was less obvious but that sub was the key to the shift in the game.

Im expecting him to see more of the bench now that we've got other players returning.

Bernie came on today and showed him what his role should be. He spends too long chasing shadows but Pep should know by now (and the club should’ve known it from his time at Milan) that he’s not defensive minded.

He needs dropping. You can’t play in the middle of a Pep side and be as anonymous as he is every week. Hes had one good game and that was 2 months ago. With others coming back, he might find himself way down the pecking order and rightly so.

We used to sign midfielders who could do everything;

Yaya
Silva
Fernandinho
Kdb
Gundo
Bernardo
Rodri

over the last three seasons we've bought midfielders that dont excel at anything,

Phillips
Kovacic
Nunes
Nico Gonzalez

unfortunately Tijjani Reijnders is an example of that. Cant defend positionally doesn't know where to be, not a great passer or dueller, can't tackle can't finish, average all round, very disappointed.

Do we really want to go back to signing Chelsea rejects? Can't ever see rodri being able to replace dingo ;-)

He just needs time.

Some supporters are overreacting, forgetting how hard it is to adapt to a new league, especially this league. You can see he’s still adjusting - the pace, the strength, the relentlessness of the Premier League can overwhelm anyone at first. There’s something about him that reminds me of Wirtz at the moment. Both obviously talented players still trying to find their rhythm here. I notice him pulling out of challenges sometimes, but even David Silva went through that in his early months. It’s all part of the process. Given time and patience, I’ve no doubt he’ll grow into a brilliant player for us.

Spends too long stood still when other players have the ball.

When BSilva came on you could see the difference in movement to find space to be passed the ball in.

He was actually better defensively today though.

I think he could do with a bit more rotation. Playing every game isn’t settling him in or playing him into form. He’s having the same impact each game. Give him a game or two off in the next few weeks and see if he has more energy to his game.

Give him time but at the moment everything seems rushed and rash

Passing can be sloppy and doesn't seem to know where to be but I do think there's a very good player there with a good attitude

Agree, but it's no big deal supporters saying that he's not doing much atm.

Been very consistent since the wolves match absolutely anonymous, should be no where near the team at this moment .

I think he will drop behind Kova and Bernie over next few weeks.

Must say though, I like him and think he will develop into a great player for us, he just seems to be struggling to know his role at the moment.

It’s a weird one as I thought he was supposed to be box to box, but he doesn’t carry the ball from what I can see. Then you saw when Bernie came on how well he kept the ball moving, everything that Reijnders wasn’t doing.

You might be surprised by the reviews some of our best midfielders got early in their city career by our fans. Rodri being the famous one. "Plodri" wasn't it?

He's been here a couple of months. He has plenty of ability. He's going to be a good player for us.

I'd definitely like to see more from him though. I don't think ability is an issue. I just want a bit more fire.

In the last Netherlands game he seemed to play more of a '10' role, until they brought Symons on.
