4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I know his style is like Gundogan but the player he reminds me of is Fernandinho.

That infectious positivity and smile. That gorgeous chip over the top of a posse of defenders into the tiny pocket of space that offers a proper opportunity. The boundless energy and strength. And the impression that he is everyone in the squads' big brother right from the start.

Tijjani's career should be a lesson for the impatient fans who are too critical of our younger players. He's 27. When he was 21-23, virtually nobody expected he will be a top, top midfielder 5 years later. At 24 he was still at AZ and scored just 9 goals in 96 league apps there.

Some of the younger players whom some love to criticise will be top top players in 2-3 years. They are already good enough to be valuable squad players.

Similar trajectory to Marmoush too, yet we have people on here slagging the likes of Rico for not being like Cafu at 20.

Lewis is a tidy player on the ball who can't read games and is total shit on defense. Against a 2nd tier Italian side and against a P/L side destined to regulation he had very good games... because he wasn't challenged on defense.

Do you want Lewis in our side against top sides... or against lesser sides which we need to win... For me, hell no!

Sell Lewis now for as much as we can get.

Sensational start from him, he’s got a bit of everything to be a perfect City midfielder.

A small detail which I liked - a pass into his feet in the first half where he waited for the ball to arrive and he got robbed by the intense press of the wolves player (welcome to the epl) - didn’t happen again. Very good players learn quickly.

As others have said him, a fully fit Rodders and any of the rest will be some midfield.

I'd have Rodri, Gonzalez and Reijnders in the big games where we need stability in the middle. Of course, Bernie is still good enough for me, somewhat underrated by some fans due to his age and the bad season of the whole team in 24/25

Yep, another big positive was that Nico G looked really good and confident too.

Everything about the guy oozes class. His positive energy is going to have a massive impact this season for sure

Tijani the blue nose reijnders. Baller.

Like I was saying all week, to those who had him in a midfield two, he'll play as the 10 and not as a 6 or 8 because that running with and without the ball is too vital to have him deeper where he has more structural responsibilities.

Is this in reference to our discussion about it? If so, you had Gundogan & Bernardo as our 'midfield pairing' for this game and until Rodri is back - I stated it should be Nico G & Reijnders (if we went for a 2) with Nico at 6 and Reijnders as box to box. You stating that wouldn't happen as Pep doesn't trust Nico at 6.

I've just watched the full game and both Reijnders & Bernardo operated as 8s - both joining the lines of attack & picking the ball up from deeper positions.

Fantastic debut - excellent work rate, class on the ball and a happy player. He was like a younger, taller Gundo. Superb
