4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

Is this in reference to our discussion about it? If so, you had Gundogan & Bernardo as our 'midfield pairing' for this game and until Rodri is back - I stated it should be Nico G & Reijnders (if we went for a 2) with Nico at 6 and Reijnders as box to box. You stating that wouldn't happen as Pep doesn't trust Nico at 6.

I've just watched the full game and both Reijnders & Bernardo operated as 8s - both joining the lines of attack & picking the ball up from deeper positions.
No one poster specifically, I had a fairly similar conversation with several posters regarding Reijnders getting more of a free reign with less defensive responsibilities to make the most out of his running power and goal threat.

For a different thread but yeah i definitely didn't see Nico starting at all, he surprised me with his inclusion and his solid performance

Rico inverting helped ensure a bit more cover that side - then again, Rico also made breaks forward.

For me, until Rodri is firing on all cylinders, Nico & Reijnders should always be in the midfield 3. Reijnders is magic and a powerful runner; Nico covered more ground than anyone and won 11 duels.

Thank fuck we beat Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and we’ll pay anything to sign him, United.

He was the best player in Italy in the last two years. Zero doubt he was going to be great. Love watching him. So much of KDB there in terms of the movement, effort and chance creation.

Reminded me a lot of Nasri yesterday with the way he was willing to run beyond Haaland and break the lines.

Nasri at his absolute best was unplayable imo. He rarely showed his absolute best, but him and Silva on their day were perfect for each other - especially during the 11/12 and 13/14 seasons. Silva would hang back and Nasri would bomb on right next to Aguero and Dzeko.

Whenever Nasri scored he was often the furthest player forward. On his day he had this amazing knack of sniffing out where a pass or a deflection was going to land, and he frequently found himself dead centre of the goal about 10 yards out. Gundogan has that same instinct when he ghosts in.

I don't see much Kevin in Reijnders, but I do see a combo of Nasri and Gundogan.

He's going to be world class this man. We heard all this gas last season from the Liverpool fans about Szoboszlai, well Reijnders is twice the player.

He's like Alexis McCallister and Frank Lampard rolled into one.

Most of the time when Nasri scored he was often the furthest player forward, and I'm curious to see how many goals Reijnders gets that resemble a few of these below.

Don't think he gets enough credit. That late goal against Chelsea in 2012 was mega

Samir was a genuinely elite player on his day imo and he scored some big goals for us. I just don't think his body or his lifestyle/attitude maybe, could handle constant top level football. A bit like Grealish actually.

He was wicked for Arsenal during that 10/11 season and good for us during the 11/12 season, but he was flat during the 12/13 season. Then he had his best ever year as a footballer during Pellegrini's first season in 13/14, scored the goals that won us the PL and League Cup. But then he tanked immediately afterwards and couldn't even stay fit.

He missed half of the 14/15 season due to repeated injuries and he was absent for basically all of the 15/16 season. Started a grand total of five games across all competitions as De Bruyne took his spot. Pep took one look at him when he came in, made him train on his own because he was overweight, and loaned him out pronto.

I think that'll massively help Haaland too. Last season, Haalands second goal doesn't happen because more than likely he would have been the one having to link up with Bobb on the right because nobody else would've made that run that Reijnders made.

I actually thought yesterday was the first time I've seen Haaland not look frustrated on the pitch for a long time and I'm certain it's because he knows those chances are coming now with players like this and he'll get more space. Last season it looked extremely hard work for us to carve out chances a lot of the time. It's not very often Haaland got time and space to run onto a ball and strike it first time like he did for the second goal yesterday, because nobody was making those runs beyond him before and giving defenders more than just Haaland to worry about.

Yes, except for after the first goal iirc - while they were celebrating he was telling Ruben something for a while. Looked like - get it to me quicker!

His performance against Wolves was insane. What really stood out for me was the different elements to his game. At times it was like watching David Silva, Gundogan and KDB.

How many times over the years have we watched David Silva beat a few players with his close control and then deliver a fantastic pass for the pre assist? His assist to Kun against Wigan always stands out for me.

Or watched Gundo burst across the pitch to score with a first time finish?

The pass for his assist to Haaland was peak KDB. The underlapping run and first time no look pass to Haaland.

He really does look like the complete midfielder.

Lewis is a tidy player on the ball who can't read games and is total shit on defense. Against a 2nd tier Italian side and against a P/L side destined to regulation he had very good games... because he wasn't challenged on defense.

Do you want Lewis in our side against top sides... or against lesser sides which we need to win... For me, hell no!

Sell Lewis now for as much as we can get.
Do you understand what a squad player is?

Superb player. I'll go on a limb here and say he'll be our best signing this summer.

The only thing to dislike is he's 27, genuinely thought he was 25 until 10mins ago. Still get 3-4 years or so of him at the absolute peak of his powers, going to be a joy to watch.

That goal in the League Cup Final. Never grow tired of seeing it. And epic celebration
