4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

McTominay is destroying the Italian league, and he is shit.
The step up from Serie A to the EPL is massive. Rjeinders is definitely struggling with the speed of the EPL
I don’t think ex-United players are a good yardstick. He was frequently one of there players when they were challenging for Europe.

Reijnders has come from a midtable Serie A side. Milan are a big club obviously but they were poor last season (I watched their CL game against Liverpool last season and they were dreadful) and Serie A is not at the standard of the PL, it’s a huge jump coming to City in the PL.

It’s going to take this lad a bit of time to settle, get used to the intensity and the physicality of the PL. But also a bit of time to stamp his personality on the team and on PL games in midfield.

He seems like a nice lad, which is great and all that, but there’s no room for niceness in midfield in the PL. David Silva and Ílkay Gündoğan are nice lads off the pitch but they were ruthless on the pitch, but it did take both of them a bit of time to get there n’all.

I won’t be judging this lad much yet, I’ll wait until Christmas and even the end of the season and see how he grows into the team and this league.
Fair and reasonable assessment

He’s incredibly fit but the pace of the game is relentless and bound to be a shock. Very few midfielders have come from abroad and been thrust into the middle of the park without first having a spell on the wing to acclimatise and learn the system. That is an indication of how highly he is regarded. The more he plays, the sharper he will become, so Guardiola will keep him on for longer than some currently want, as he knows we’ll then reap the benefits of that sooner.

Overall fine today. Love his attitude on the pitch. Gets into some great attacking positions.

I think he'll need to support Rodri a bit more in the mf on Sunday.

Napoli are the champions. McTominay and Gilmour in midfield. Hojland as the new star striker. It puts Serie A in perspective for me.

I've seen the mistakes. Yet, i love him. Cant explain it. He does things that tell me he'll be great once it clicks.

I am totally fine with his misplaced passes. He is seeing things early kinda like Kev, and i really like that.

The errors will subside. And then it will be Wolves every game.
That's how I see it. I'm much happier with the things he does well than I am disappointed with the things that haven't clicked yet

I think he did fine. Nothing special but no mistakes or crazy errors. He will come good. He has a good shot and as we saw vs United he has chances. Needs to be a little more clinical

he looks much more of an attacking midfielder than a central midfielder or box-to-box or deeplying midfielder. certainly better in attacking positions close to the box with the ball than anywhere without the ball.

Looks more like a number 10 than a central midfielder, more of a ball carrier than a great passer. Kovacic must start with Rodri when he returns, he will give us 0 control on Sunday against Arsenal .

If he isnt going to play 10, needs to be on the bench. Just doesnt offer enough of anything in the 8 role and I fear for us if he plays there against Arsenal. They'll overrun us. Bernardo next to rodri, free up reijnders and have foden off the right, those two can even interchange. He just isnt ready to play as an 8.

Took Rodders a season

Not sure how to appraise his performance today. Got into some good positions and then didn't quite execute. So do you praise him for getting in the right spots or criticise for not quite getting it right?

Lovely player to watch though and I can feel big goals in him

Got to agree . He will be a goal threat but on Sunday we need a destroyer in midfield and I don’t think it’s him .

Thing is he started so brightly expectations went a bit over the top. Especially after the Wolves game.

Reijnders is one of those players that is able to step up a level. He never seem to catch the eye immediately. This is what happened at AZ Alkmaar, at AC Milan and with the Dutch national team. He will here as well. My guess is he needs time, but not a lot. The step up from La Liga is simply huge.
