4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I
You might be surprised by the reviews some of our best midfielders got early in their city career by our fans. Rodri being the famous one. "Plodri" wasn't it?

He's been here a couple of months. He has plenty of ability. He's going to be a good player for us.

I'd definitely like to see more from him though. I don't think ability is an issue. I just want a bit more fire.
I dont understand the rhetoric behind Rodri's first season, it wasn't a bad season, his main issues were positionally, 19-20 was a bad season as a team. I always thought Rodri would become a top player, with Reijnders I'm not sure, it will take time for him.

Looks considerably better further forward (Wolves, Arsenal, Brentford) than as one of a midfield two, which probably makes him the odd one out when everyone’s fit unless he shows he can play that deeper position.

thought he showed more defensive awareness vs Everton which is something that was previously missing....the attacking part will come when he settles but overall he played well vs Everton

Frustrating in that he clearly has a lot more to offer but games are just passing him by. Hoping it's an adjustment period for now

I think he's fine.

Clearly in the process of learning Pep's patterns, and he's a little detached from everyone else's wavelength, but he's still contributing to good performances. He keeps things ticking over nicely, he has a nice style and flair about him, and I think he's getting the hang of things defensively.

He's playing a different role for us than he did with Milan (looks to have gone from a #10 to an #8) and he needs to be given time to adapt, which I think he will. He's come very close to scoring 4-5 goals in total thus far, and with a little bit of luck his chances will start going in.

So far this season he's notched up 4 G/A in 11 games. Those numbers need to go up a bit, but he's come awfully close to doing so, hitting the woodwork a couple of times and creating good chances that haven't gone in. It's all there and he definitely has the ability, he just needs time.

Our collective is doing well, so we don't need to focus too much on individuals who are becoming accustomed to a new league and new ways of playing. I think he has done fine, but there is room for improvement. It will be hard for anyone to play a 10 when Foden and Cherki are the competition.

He comes off as a nice combination of Gundo and Bernardo, just needs to improve his movement off the ball in an out of possession. Has a good eye for when to make a late run into the box like Gundo, but he's a little more risky and loose with the ball at his feet. He has Bernardo's energy, but he seems to do a lot of running but not actually doing much defensively.

It’s clear he has the ability and talent to play for us. Lots of touches, moments and spells in games to show this. Next question is will he thrive? Not sure. Needs to do more and be more consistent but it’s October. We are gelling as a side and he isn’t next to Rodri all the time which doesn’t help. Plus we are a work in progress.

Should be on at least 4 league goals this season and then I’m sure some would be talking differently. He’s a TOP player

The fact that Bernardo in 2025 outplayed him is very worrying. I thought he’d be the most easiest plug in and play. I would bench him today and hope he turns up against Villa.

I know he’ll be fine. Nico G barely played I’m his first season. Now he looks more and more like a Man City player

Hes still adapting. His best quality is goalscoring and once he finds the right areas to get in chances he will provide the goals too.

IMO his best quality is driving forward with the ball, aggressively attacking the defense, and getting into very dangerous positions for the opposition. From there - he'll either assist or score.

I rate Reijinders and think that he'll be absolute class for our side - he's going through a poor spell of form coupled with adapting to the faster pace of the P/L IMO. He'll eventually adapt and will be one of the best midfielders in the P/L before end-of-season IMO.

Is goalscoring his best quality? He’s only scored double figures in one season in his career.

He scored 15 goals for Milan last season (excellent numbers) but only:
4 goals in 2023-24
7 goals in 2022-23
6 goals in 2021-22
0 goals in 2020-21
…at 21 years old in 2019-20 he wasn’t even getting in Twente’s team and scored 3 goals for the reserves.
