4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I don't remember Fernandinho coming in for criticism really. By the time he scored those goals against Arsenal in December he was already pretty well liked.

Yaya is another story, though. I remember the complaints about him from the start. That thread made in December 2010/January 2011 was a pretty famous one on here for a while.

These are a laugh to read actually.

Still a long way to go yet in his career at City, only been here 3 months.

Think we're comparing him to that Wolves games too often - still has plenty of time to become a really solid player for us
Yup!! I always say.. remember Rodri and Sane. Took them a while to get going here but once they did, they took off. Reijnders will be fine. We’ve seen flashes in the club World Cup and early season and his play in Italy is well documented. For some the EPL takes time to adjust too

He needs a goal. He’s so frustrated, you can see it. Keeps coming close. I reckon when he finally scores and gets some confidence up we will see q different player, the one we expected

I thought Ferna was superb his first season. Fondly remember the Arsenal 6-3 game
I’m sure Fernandinho lost his place in the run in to Javi Garcia that season. It was a bit like Zaba taking Micah Richards place in 2012. Both who lost out had good seasons, but these guys just took their chance and stayed in the team.

Javi Garcia you bastard back in re - hab :-)

A bit strange because with a little bit more.luck/clinical finishing (not totally sure which) he could easily have scored 4-5 more goals

Still a bit anonymous when the opposition have the ball, but he can definitely read the game and see a pass.

*sigh* We already have to replace him because he’s not what we thought he was.

I think we are yet to find balance in our midfield and when we do Tijjani could be a key player in the last part of the season.

RW need addressing - Savio and Bobb haven’t been great and playing Cherki and Foden together hasn’t worked well (yet)

Having a proper RB will help as players will commit more.

Nico is getting a good run at CDM and looks good. He may need help rotating but it was a big thing at the start of the season him playing 6.

Players getting into rhythm second half of the season has always been a huge part of our success.

Agreed, Fernandinho hit the ground running. Reijnders looks to have ability and athleticism but to me it looks like hes really struggling to find his place in the team. Doent look like he knows what he should be doing or how to be effective.

That should come as he does look a good player. Does need to find a pair of balls for challenges though.

I remember Fernandinho and Rodri hardly set the world alight in their first season and questions were being asked.

Obviously the performance against Wolves has confused people led to different expectations.
Just needs time to settle in, exactly.

Will see how he fairs in the run in, have a feeling he could become a clutch-style Gundogan player!

Technically gifted but doesn’t look like he has the appetite for the physical battles in midfield. That is fine if we are playing with 2 others in midfield who are up for that but can’t play him and others who struggle with the physical side of the game. Think he deputises for Foden for me with 2 of Nico/Rodri/Kovacic. Problem being 2 of those not fit. We look as though we can be outfought in midfield at the moment. Need another player in midfield who can mix it if needed but has the technical ability to fit in the system.

I think the Wolves game probably didn't do him much good. Might have gotten ahead of himself and it's only made him frustrated.
