4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

That's why I laugh when commentators and pundits bang on about our second string being so strong etc..

It's fucking not. We would end up bottom half if we had to field them all season.
The backups weren't terrible. Ake, Trafford, Stones, AN, Nico, Kovacic all had good games. The main weakness was in attacking midfield where Phil, Reijnders and Marmoush were poor (imo).

Still can't work him out. There's a player in there somewhere and I'm not against keeping him another year but it's fair to say choosing him over Gibbs White was a fuck up. MGW is class.

I reckon he'll come good next year. Flashes of brilliance this season.

Reijnders clearly has loads of talent. So far, in his first year in the P/L, it's not quite clicking. GIve him another year and then decide.
What makes you think he'll get a regular start next season? He had his chance here when he was getting picked and failed miserably. A fair weather player if ever there was one.

He had a good game without scoring. Don’t know what people here expect but it’s nothing new. Recency bias is filling bluemoon. Pep said the same.

If he's here next season (i think he will be) he'll get plenty of opportunities to play. Like always it'll be up to the player to take them.

I’m probably in this camp but his languid style and smile makes it look like he isn’t trying which is annoying. Am sure he is but it doesn’t always look that way. I think he needs to beef up physically too

He criticises nobody in public and neither should he.
He team selections tell you more than his utterances to the media rabble.
And his selections over the last 6 matches tells you who he trusts and who is likely to be moved on in the close season.
Who he trusts? yes! Who is likely to be moved? No.

You can also tell those he is disappointed he cant give enough minutes to vs those he is simply disappointed in.

In the former are Kova, Reijnders and Savio. The latter unfortunately is someone like Stones. He goes out of his way to tell the world what he thinks is great about the former without prompting.. That's how you know. With people he doesn't care to keep, he is always short with the press and only speaks about them when queried.

There is a difference. Folks might not like Kova, TJ and Savio. But Pep clearly does. And makes q point to let it be known. Even if they are not in his current best 11

If we had our full 22, our back up 11 will be top 7ish.

Trafford

Stones
Dias
Ake

RAN
Nico G
Kovacic
Reijnders
Savio

Foden
Marmoush

And that's without Gvardiol. If that team plays together for 10 games, they'd be a top 6 ish team

Can't see it happening with Reijnders. To be honest there's times the system exposes the 6 as in the case of rodri and Nico G and fern before them. Reijnders position is different.
I still believe in the lad as you can see he`s got the talent but whenever he plays he just cant show consistency in his game. Hopefully that will change.

Sadly the facts are these:

In there here and now.. he's way better than Foden.

Also his shot is literally unstoppable if he can get it on target. It's almost Rodri or KDB'esqe how the ball just jumps off his foot. Even Mahrez didn't have that kinda venomous shot.

Those 2 reasons are why I don't think the club will move him.. but will likely instead try to fine tune him.

If he was absolutely not trusted, he wouldn't have played yesterday. (which is worrying for Rico Lewis and maybe a few others)

Kovacic managed to start for the first time this season and look really sharp.

It’s a good point. Like others have stated there’s a player somewhere in there but the PL may not be suited to his skillset.

Should give him another yr for a better review but he’s no youngster & should be in his prime.

Kovacic has been out for a majority of the season, first game back looked like our best player in the first half which is a barometer for Tijjani considering he’s been anonymous most matches bar the Wolves opener.
