Strange how he's not even coming off the subs bench.
Why is it strange? I'd suggest the complete opposite was true in that it would be strange if he was coming off the bench at the minute.

This is the most settled and solid back 4 we've put out all season, why mess with it unless forced to? Given he's been here a matter of months, is inexperienced, is still learning and doesn't speak the language yet, they're not exactly the ideal attributes you look for if you want to go down the route of bulking up the defence late on. Akanji who is vastly experienced and knows what to do is comfortably the better go to option for that.

He's shown what he's about, he'll play a lot of games for us, there's no rush.

Back 4 looking very composed at the moment.
Khusanov waxs a little unfortunate in being subbed at half time when he was on a yellow.
O Reilly coming on at LB and Gvardiol transferring to CB has worked really well for us and we now have 2 exciting young players who don't want to give up these positions.
Not only Khusanov but the likes of Stones, Akanji and Ake will now have to fight to get their places back.

Team is in good form, so Pep won’t make any changes, especially in the back line, anytime soon. Unless one of them gets injured

Really?

Training for 6 months under Guardiola and with players who are a huge step up from those he’s played with before.

You’d have learnt a lot doing that, never mind a pro.
There's times we could really do with his pace because Dias has none. Himself and Gvardiol will be first choice soon enough

Some people are really fucking weird. It's self explanatory why he wasn't in the squad, it was him or akanji, not both.

akanji has more experience, can play across the entire line, speaks the language, has been here more than 3 months and is currently the better footballer. Who exactly are we expecting to be dropped from the squad to fit him in?

It was a signing brought forward 6 months, everything until next season is a bonus.

Literally every single squad in the league has the dilemma of having to leave players out of the squad if they happen to have more than 20 players fit and available at once, it's a frequent occurrence that doesn't even warrant a mention.

I think Club World Cup there are players that will play some of the games. So we need to get Akanji up to speed as well as Khusanov. We could see a number of players in the defence being rotated. We will be mindful of what games all will play from now until end of World Cup.
