Watching the Barca Inter game I realized that Pep's obsession with control is actually a negative tactic.
This iteration of Barca is you score 3 we'll get 4 and it makes for good viewing.
Barcelona should have won that tie. They are so much more talented than Inter. Their tactics were abysmal, it looked like Inter could score every time they attacked. Actually they pretty much did.

They should have done and if they'd had prime Kompany at the back would have done.

Not with those tactics
To be fair, the most important player on the pitch was the Inter goalkeeper. He made some world class saves.
Barca also hit the woodwork quite a lot.

City despite a more conservative approach, even when the best team, often came unstuck in the CL.

Cup football is like that.

I actually think if you ask Pep, do you prefer to play in PSGs style or Barcas, he would pick PSG.

Both do a high possession game with high pressing.

But PSG is alot more concerned about being countered, and are cautious, while Barca (in trusting their high line) just go all out.

They score alot yes, but concede alot as well, and Pep wont like that.

I actually think Flick is benefitting from a sort of 1st year bounce, he is a terrific manager no doubt, but his high line is slowly being snuffed out, its just taking almost the whole season.

Ive already seen teams do "waved runs" to trick the barca high line as an example tactic.

Managers get more pragmatic with age. It happens to all of them, including Pep.

That being said, Barca played really attractive football, but lost.

Looks like Pep is seeing the season out with his dependables, but would love to know what his plans are for the January signings.
Think the CWC will show us what next season will look like. In a way we could well benefit from it as Pep tries new players and new tactics in competitive games instead of pre season friendlies.

Really hope to see a lot of Bobb, Echeverri, Khusanov and Reis, possibly Nico G too although he's less of an unknown.
I wouldn't mind completely dropping Bernardo, Gvardiol, Foden and even Dias from the squad. Let them take the summer off, mentally recharge and start next season fresh.

I think none of the four semi-finalists were particularly great by historical standards. Look at Barcelona's starting lineup. You've got Eric Garcia as a makeshift right back, an 18 year old kid starting as CB alongside a 33 year old they got on a free because they were bankrupt, Martin at LB in his first season of senior football (at 23) and Ferran Torres as your starting striker. If anything, they were dragged kicking and screaming to the verge of a final by the likes of Yamal in a weak year. It's genuinely impressive that they've managed to be as good as they are with that squad.

The defenders are coming back from injury. We won't be seeing him at all when Stones and Ake return, not just him Reis (no idea why we just didn't loan him back to his club, at least he'll be getting game time) and O'Reilly.

To be fair, where would he play?

The back 4 for the foreseeable should be:
Nunes---Dias---Gvardiol---O'Reilly

Nobody else should be getting a look in.
That wasn't the back 4 today though was it ? I would've rather seen Khus than Akanji, how is he going to develop his game if can't play at all even against the worst team in league history ?

It wasn't but my point was he shouldn't be getting a look in because nobody should.

That back 4 is the reason we're winning games, I love Pep but he was wrong to change it today.

Agreed. Khus is our best defender on form this season. We should be building him up for the next season, not destroying his confidence.

Why buy him then if he can’t feature?

What sort of stupid planning is happening with squad

Because he was 20 years old and we saw an opportunity to get him before the summer window.

He had a good few games but it was also in a period where we were still playing shite.

Since we went to Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol and O'Reilly the results massively improved, it was wrong it was changed today as none of the others should be getting a look in.

He'll get the CWC and the cups next season to prove himself, maybe get back in the side.
