45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

I reserve full judgment on him. He came in during a difficult period and it always takes time to adapt to a new team and country.

However, he is currently under the 'Bojinov effect' with some where the longer he doesn't play, the better he becomes.

He'll be better than Maldini by the time the season starts...! :)

I'd believe that if it wasn't for the fact that we've seen players who were clearly not good enough get plenty of game time this past year.

Nonsense. Zero players at City are "clearly not good enough". You could put any one in a recent top City side and we wouldn't really get a drop off. Problem is when too many who are question marks have to play in the same side.

A reminder that this guy was 21 in February and has arrived in a new country, new league, new teammates, and a new style of play.
His stats were among the very best for U21 defenders in the top five leagues: he is a super prospect.
He will play some games and will miss some games. There is no rush for him to be thrown into a failing team, nor to replace world-class, fit defenders. He will be bedded in, and will get opportunities to show that he is ready. The fatalism of some posters is ridiculous.
Well said.

We might be bringing over the Uzbek Glaubur Berti to help him settle in.

The team looked and performed better with Dias and Gvardiol together. Khusanov’a individual performance were generally really good but the overall team was better after he was dropped
How does that explain why he was dropped, though?

Also, if he had planned on putting Gvardiol in his real position instead of pissing about at LB, why go and buy 3 more CBs?

While also giving a young SP from the youth a go midseason, actually giving that lad a baptism of fire right in our most shitty spell of the season.

Some might say, hung the lad out to dry and not been seen since, either, despite him not doing to badly for his age and the way the team performed at that time.

I guess his player of the year from the youth league will console him plenty, while he also contemplates the 3 new CBs bought in January.

Bit of a tangent, I know, but one thing leads to another.

He was taken off for being poor away at Bournemouth which led to the introduction of NOR at left back and a sudden, massive improvement in our overall shape

That revelation meant Gvardiol could move back centrally, meaning no room for Khus

We signed three young centre backs because we will have three senior CBs leaving next summer at the latest. That’s surely the kind of squad planning we’ve been crying out for, isn’t it?

Not sure what Simpson-Pusey getting game time at the absolute height of our defensive injury crisis has to do with anything

So you're saying it took one poor game from a young CB to finally force Pep into playing Gvardiol in his propoer position?
Could have bought a LB at anytime over the last 10 years or so and saved that problem of out of position players.

Yes, great succession planning, if they have a chance of playing.

and to further that above statement, that is what it had to do with Simpson-Pusey.

Another great prospect shuffled down the pack behind bought in players.

At the same time, we are crying out for homegrown quota players.

I know, we might’ve even won a trophy or two over that period if he’d done that, the bald bitch

Still not sure why he got dropped after winning player of the month?
Apparently it was rumoured to do with City not wanting to pay a bonus payment to club we bought him off if he played another game for us last season .
We will soon find out if he's got a future at the club with Pg wanting a squad of 20 .

Who cares, sometimes we just need a defender who can bail us out, Walker was no great shakes going forward either but saved us loads, leave him on the halfway line and tell him just to defend the other 9 can do the rest.
Sometimes, sure. But most of the time he’d be a passenger or at times even a liability if we’re on the front foot dominating the ball

Lad’s a central defender, let’s see if he can get a game there first before throwing him into an entirely new role

Well, it is a better rumour than the dandruff one anyway lol

Well he’s played right back and done ok and are you saying Walker was a passenger as well, he couldn’t cross, wasn’t the best passer so the bar isn’t high, it showed once his speed had gone he was a limited player, Khusanov couldn’t be any worse in that respect.

Just sign a proper right back like Livramento. Khusanov is a good option from time to time but like someone said above he isn't natural with the ball to feet like Stones is. Khusanov should be played in the centre of defence instead of Dias.

I saw a clip of him playing against Vinicius Jr and he matched him for speed and strength why the hell he is not our right back at the moment baffles me.
He's not good enough as a right back. He has potential to be a world class cb but you can tell he isn't a good rb which is fine since that isn't his primary position anyways
