I just don’t see how he’s going to go from playing less than 90 minutes in the first 15 league games of the season combined, to Silva’s replacement next season. Seems more likely that we’ll sign someone like Fabian Ruiz and Foden will be in the same situation as now.

Yeah, I can't see us going into next season with KDB and Foden as our only number 8's. Unless Pep converts Bernardo which doesn't look likely at the moment then I think we'll buy in the summer.

Yep,we are losing a body and he needs to be replaced,pep has said phil will be our new magician,i can't see why we would buy someone to keep him where he is,more likely the new player would be below him in the pecking order

Phil has been in the first team for 3yrs by then? he wil be taking daves spot,someone will need to take his spot,i don't think we need to panic about him not claiming his place just because we buy somone,different conversation if we buy a 100m on a player in his position of course

I can actually see Bernardo playing 8 more often next year after David leaves, with Jesus playing LW more often (especially if Sane leaves), leaving a gap for a new striker, which given Aguero is ageing (and soon to leave), is definitely a priority for the club.

That would make our front six options (note: I do not agree with all of these being optimal “options”, just basing them off what Pep has already done in the last few seasons):

Phil could conceivably get 1,500+ minutes in the league next year (easily if our “luck” with injuries continues), after getting nearly 1,000 in all comps this year (based on current trends) and that would still be easing him in.

We’re 15 games in and he’s played less than 90 minutes so far, I can’t see him playing over 900 minutes in the remaining games.
