The academy players are mostly an income stream when we sell them on,only one or two are ever going to make it to the first team in a team like ours, you need to understand that is how it works, phil and eric will make it and that is a decent number out of hundreds or more, they are both being managed just fine

Getting 1 or 2 academy players out of hundreds is a terrible return.

I have a big issue with the academy is for profit mentality everybody is pettling, do you have the numbers to back that up? Simply listing out how much we sell these players for doesn't cut it for me, and people almost never look at long term profits lost.

How much are we paying to RUN the academy, pay the people wages for all the facilities etc.
The youth players are all getting paid, and we pay to bring in youth players as well.

At the end of it, there is definitely still a profit being made, but in terms of the time, energy, and lost profits from early sales (Sancho, Brahim, Frimpong), I cannot see how it is worth the club's effort if there goal is simply to have a "money maker".

Essentially losing a Sancho like player, makes 100+ years of academy profits pointless and stupidly inefficient when we could have kept Sancho and had that money right there, but the academy's past history give players like him no hope. Also consider this when combined with 50m+ squad signings that are only half the time worth it or necessary.

I don't know where to find it now but last year or the year before we made over 70m on academy sales, that is a new first team player, for a team like ours the 2 is fine,we fight for all 4 comps every season,we don't wimp out and we need a great squad for that,i am not sure why people expect the academy to do more than that for us

We don't have any idea if sancho would have made it big here,at 17 he didnt have the right attitude if you ask me

There is no way I believe we made 70m in sales (revenue) on the academy, please show me this. I am assuming you are saying only academy, not all sales.

The academy should be producing players to become squad players and eventually (or hopefully) break into the first team.
On "Why people expect the academy do more than that for us"? Well maybe because almost EVERY successful team in history you can think of has probably had academy players in there who added good depth or became starters. I can't think of another successful club who cannot integrate academy players, this is some nonsense mentality some City fans have conjured up.

Well we have tried, until now none of them have been good enough to stake a claim

Literally the first sentence:
Manchester City have sold £71m worth of academy players and graduates over the last four seasons despite none of them having made more than 10 senior appearances for the club.

So that is over 4 years.
Yeah my time scale was out,i don't have a great memory,it also says a lot more than anyone else

That's okay. But here is my point:

1) How much did we pay in operating costs for the academy over 4 years.
2) How much did we pay all these academy players over 4 years.

Take those 2 in and there is still a profit, but it dwindles very fast. Not to mention this is probably the BEST return the academy made over 4 years.

Now also consider the lost future profits from these players, Sancho alone makes the whole thing a huge loss. Denayer is also worth atleast 3-4x what we sold him for as well.

i don't know about that, jason didn't play for the first team so 11.8m is a miracle, some comment on there mentioned nacho, that was another 25m,it is a business model which is working just fine

Highly disagree about it as a business model. Too inefficient to me.

Denayer is worth 50m now, his talent was obvious and he is one of the best defenders in Ligue 1 and carries Lyon's backline.

Don't think we will make headway here, just difference in ideologies.
