oh and Karen no it all nos more about football than you!

To answer your question, I think it’s clear pep wants him to stick around the team. Once we get to two games a week and the cups I imagine Phil will see game time. Also, it was clear from the end of last season, especially the Leicester game that pep wasn’t happy with Phil’s pressing and positioning so I think he’s keeping him here so he can improve on that.

Yup, it's clear Pep wants to keep him close.

Pep has also said that Foden will get more game time this season; especially after the first international break.

Championship football v being in a peps team, hmmm,he struggles with the rest of the U21 team they are so far below him,he would be dragged down to championship level not dragging them up,since when has playing on the ground been anything like how we play?

Agree - very odd that anyone would think Championship football resembles the PL, let alone Pep's style. Here's two indicators:
- Why do most promoted teams struggle like crazy in the PL?
- Swansea were the only team to lay a glove on us in the Cups last year. Clearly a real football-playing side. Why are they not a force in the Championship?

I don't think Foden should go on loan but none of these arguments really hold up.

There are some very good teams in the Championship who do try and play football like ours. Look at last season. Pep has literally cited Bielsa as one of his biggest influences and called him a genius. Graham Potter last season was playing great football with Swansea as we know, Farke at Norwich, Chris Wilder at Sheffield, Lampard at Derby. Dean Smith at Villa.

Possession and position based football has never been more popular in the Championship, and there are a ton of sides where if we sent a loanee, they'd get coached to play in a way that isn't at odds with Pep. Only West Brom of the play-off sides played football that you'd look at and think its not really where a City midfielder is going to fit.

These sides playing well or coping in the Premier League is completely irrelevant to if they play the kind of football that'd make them a good destination for a loanee as well. Being adventurous and falling short of promotion doesn't make you a bad loan destination compared to a lump it forward club who might scrape better points totals.

Also lastly, the average promoted side actually finishes 15th in the Premier League, they are usually much better than the prevailing wisdom would suggest, and it's normally inexperience, poor decisions above the manager's level and panic which does them in rather than being shit.

Anyway most of that is irrelevant to Foden because he'd not be going to the Championship anyway, if he were to get loaned out in England, it'd be in the Premier League.

agree on the last point, but Karen was critiquing the person who suggested Foden could get regular playing time in the Championship. As for the other items, Graham Potter and Swansea was exactly my point. Played some great football, but really over the head of most Championship teams who have a more rudimentary approach. Not exactly the kind of thing that will develop a youngster's skills. Also, you have cited four teams out of a division of 24 - and two of those are no longer in the Championship!

I wasn't replying to Karen, I was replying to your points. But if Karen thinks Foden would struggle at Leeds under Bielsa because no one else would be on his wavelength than it's probably through not knowing anything about Bielsa.

I also mentioned 6 teams out of 24 last season, which means 1/4 of the championship last season was suitable for loaning our kids to.

I don't know enough about the newcomers this season to judge if they're better than the 3 who went up - Huddersfield getting the Cowley brothers means there's 1 new team who'll play the right way, Steve Cooper had the England u17 side Foden was in playing great football, Warbuton at QPR was very good at Brentford, and Cocu at Derby replaces Lampard.

Attacking possession based managers have left, but more have come in, it's the style that's in fashion at the top of the Championship.

There's plenty of teams out there who we can loan kids to, and the fact they'll get experience playing against lump it long teams is great experience because it's what we face most weeks.

Again, all of this is irrelevant to Foden so perhaps for another thread.
