Is it me or does he pull some strange expressions after he’s scored etc with that boat race:)
We are essentially making the same point, but what I'm saying is the formation dictates how the #8 differs so you can't say Foden is a better #8 than Gundogan. People assume that when Gundogan plays in place of Dave he is automatically suppose to do the same things with back to goal creating etc. When we play with Dave, he and Kev are high in the attack acting like 2 #10's. When Gundogan is in there lots of times he's sat further back next to Rodri holding. He doesn't go forward and we play more in a 4-2-3-1. Since he's sat back further there is one less attacker forward and we can seem more abject, but this is because Pep wants more control than pushing men forward. He wants another player to help hold and recycle the ball. Against good pressing teams like Liverpool he doesn't want as many players further in attack. So I'm not sure what your point is.
You want an 8 or a 10, you pick Foden. You want a 6, you pick Gundogan. It's like comparing Rodri to David Silva.
All I've said is that Phil is a central midfielder, not a winger. He can do a job there but it's not where his strengths lie.
He's infinitely more adept at recieving the ball in the middle of the pitch with his back to goal and taking two touches to eliminate three opposition players than he is at getting the ball out wide, isolating a defender 1v1 and taking on his man.
There's a whole lot more to it than that but I'll just keep it short by saying playing Foden as a winger is similar to playing Fernandinho as a centre back. Will he do a good job? Yes because he's excellent. Will he be as good as in his natural position? Most of the time, no.
Don’t you pull a face when you’ve scored? :)Is it me or does he pull some strange expressions after he’s scored etc with that boat race:)

Not only is he a quality footballer but he also has his head screwed on. It’s going to be an absolute pleasure watching his career unfold.Phil Foden on David Silva: "People are saying I could take his position: it’s a massive responsibility. But we’ll see how it goes next year. I’ve got to keep playing well and earn it. It doesn’t come easy, you don’t just get the shirt like that.
"Hopefully, I can do it. I feel I’ve needed to grow up quick in this team and be a man. Because if I’m going to get any opportunity I need to learn the physical side
"His game management, when to attack and when to keep the ball, these things that young players need to work on. Sometimes you can be a bit rash with your decision making. He’s definitely helped me with that.
Sensible boy and more patient than most on here !
Was going to post how this was total bollocks but can’t be arsed. It is bollocks though. He needs to be playing regularly in his favoured position next season, be it here or elsewhere - he thrives for England when everything goes through him.
He’s already behind in his development; Kompany and De Bruyne had played circa 100 games in senior football in Belgium by the age of 20, Aguero even more, while David Silva had two productive loan spells at Eibar and Celta before becoming a key player for Valencia. Bayern loaned out Lahm and Kroos etc - a season elsewhere as a catalyst for a team that doesn’t win most games easily could define Foden’s career. Same for Doyle, Harwood-Bellis etc - let them go and play now, with a view to becoming key players for us over the next decade.
Have to disagree, it was total bollocksWas going to post how this was total bollocks but can’t be arsed. It is bollocks though.
