Foden is completely getting lost in this false 9 between defenders large parts of the games, we lose so much of his ball quality by not having him on the ball causing all sorts of problems to opponents.
not a huge issue when we are up against teams that do not sit deep and maybe not scared to come out and play us but most of the team of course park the bus, limit the space and Foden is fighting dead ends with hard centerbacks with actually not getting on the ball much despite he is one of the most technical player in the squad.

Phil's strengths are his running at players ,getting shots off and his passing ,all of this has been compromised to have him playing with his back to goal against seasoned 6ft centre backs , shoehorned into the team to accommodate grealish ,not Phil's fault but he's not kicked on this time as hoped due to constantly being fucked about , potentially the best young player in the world wasted at present

Very poor performance again tonight, don’t think false 9 really becomes him.
We are losing all of Foden best attributes playing him in this position!
5/10 isn’t unfair

Not sure we can blame Phil for that. He's the guy taking one for the team in the false 9 role against a 10/11 man low block with no space at all. If Pep had changes it a bit and puts him him out wide and he still does nothing then fair enough, but he wasn't given much chance tonight at all

Really can't say he was poor with so little involvement and most of it not down to him. Our best attacker is sacrificing himself for the team it makes no sense.

I should probably just copy and paste the same comment in here every game, he's completely wasted in that position.

peps really mis-using him this season. He's the best left winger in the squad by some distance, he has to play there. This is now becoming similar to the Fernandinho at centre back season, not only do we not get the best from him in a different unfamiliar position but we're being impacted twice because we're losing what he can offer in his better position too. We're getting a shit version of Foden upfront and a shit foden replacement on the left.

Some stat that. Definitely backs up what most people know we’re completely wasting him up there. A few people are commenting how poor he was. Well, 3 of those touches were absolutely sublime and a decent contact from KDB and what an assist that would have been.

Bit too many square pegs at the moment with Bernie on the left where he’s rarely at his best, Phil down the middle chasing about and battling big centre halves and Gundo mostly sat on the bench. Don’t think Grealish (who I thought was half decent last night) or even KDB are doing enough to justify the other 3 being out of position or sacrificed.

We need him firing and performing to his best and that is not going to happen playing him as the false 9 imo. Unfortunately, I think Pep will continue to play him as the false 9 which is to the detriment of the team.

Needs to be put back on the left wing or in midfield. Completely wasted as a false 9/No 9 unless we play sides as poor as the rags or Sporting Lisbon

We're shoehorning Grealish onto the left so there's no room for Foden there, unfortunately.

I think Grealish would be more effective as one of the 8s
I think perhaps next season it might move towards being Grealish or Gundogan as the left 8, KDB or Bernardo as the right 8. Foden on the left, Mahrez on the right, cover from Sterling and Jesus (if they don't leave!) for both flanks, and a striker up front. Or if we play false 9 then one of those who miss out in their main position in any given game can cover there.

I love Phil most on the wing, and Jack in that left half-space, and their ability to link up.

Just because players can play multiple positions, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to play them where they're most effective.

I could be being bias here, but I think it's Pep trying to teach Phil all areas of the game before dropping him deeper. I genuinely believe they are sacrificing one season to improve his all round game. Next season is when I expect pep to decide with Phil where his position will be and he will kick on from there. Again, this could be giving Pep too much credit and he just likes Phils pace and workrate for closing down, but he's top 3 in this team now and I can't believe he's wasting such talent for any other reason.

There will be reason of why Pep playing Foden as F9 right now, even though he looked like been wasted i think it's been very important as part of his overall development of the game because he is still young, he can still learn and adapt many thing for his game.

He can afford one "bad season" while still young this season, it's all part of his learning process to get through that experience and became a better of it.
