There's nothing in the quotes that says that. Every quote seems to be Southgate making assumptions that because Pep doesn't play him there, he must think he's not ready (other than having proven world class players in the same position). And then when he's asked if he's discussed it with Pep, he says "yes."

If Pep thinks he's not ready to play in the middle against top class opposition, he could have fooled me. He played there in the CL final ffs. In fact, he's played in two CL finals and in neither of them did he 'start on the wing and cut in.' The first one, we had Sterling and Mahrez playing and the second one, Grealish and Bernardo played out wide and he replaced De Bruyne (who is the main reason why he doesn't usually start centrally for City).

He has absolutely NO right to reveal conversations between him and Pep. I hope Pepe does something about this - either have a rant in the media , or put him on radio silence.
Fortunately , I think Phil is now achieved/mature enough to see SouthPlank for the simpleton that he is , and not let this affect his confidence / self-belief ; I expect he listens to Pep , but merely tolerates SouthTwit .
