He had a great 6 months or so last season. People are critical because so many of us thought he’d become a truly great player and main man in the team. Great players usually perform year in year out. He’s 25 in a few months and just looks like a moments player.

He looks incapable of dictating a game. We all know the natural talent he’s got but he’s got a lightning quick striker up top. When was the last time he played a great defence splitting pass for Haaland or anyone else? You don’t even see him go past players these days. Against Brentford one on one with a defender was a prime example. He just slowed down and eventually past it inside. At the moment in a team with only one other goal scorer he’s worth his place for his goal threat. Other than that he’s offering very little.
Form is temporary, class is permanent

He's looking for the ball, looking for his teammates, and looking for the goal. The real Foden, pleasure to watch.

Looking more like the player we know he is, would like him to "own" a game from start to finish. He is good enough, just needs to put it into practise

Loved the way he did not panic with the third goal on Saturday, he knew the Chelsea CB's we chasing him down but he did what he had to do, top class finish and made it look a lot easier than it was.

so happy for foden he's taken so much stick from the euros and start of the season he's now making people eat there words thought he was brilliant against chelsea and took his goal very very well

My view on
So just so we’ve got this straight.

Gareth Southgate is the reason Phil’s playing shit. He’s the only England player to get permanently ruined by Southgate, while Saka, Rice, Bellingham, Alexander-Arnold, Kane etc etc are all having great seasons.

Gareth Southgate who hasn’t coached Phil for 9 months.

You belong in a looney bin.

Hopefully under the supervision of Nurse Southgate.

Talks about suffering from physical and mental lows at the start of the season and a bit about his struggles for England in this new interview. Doesn’t go into detail about any physical problems but definitely adds a bit of weight to the mental burnout theory. Hope the lad continues to improve, we’ve looked a much better side this year because of him.

Football isn't linear, you can't always improve on the previous season, you go through peaks and troughs and often the younger you start the harder it is to live up to everyone's expectations

He's getting closer to Haaland which is where he's at his best, he's not a David Silva type where he's gonna dictate the game from deeper and feed balls, he is at his best when he has space to run into or timing runs into the box

he's doing much better, but he still isn't at his best and honestly may not happen this season but I fully expect to see him among the best in the league in no time

The trajectory of Foden's form this season isn't very different from that of last season.

Foden hadn't scored many goals before Christmas last season, but found a rich vein of form after Christmas, roughly from Everton away on. From February to May he was a goal-scoring machine.

Foden can get unplayable if he improves on his explosiveness and speed. 2-3 years ago he was going past players more easily than now. If he combines pace and the ability to score, he will be hard to stop. Another dimension of his game that can be slightly better is creating chances. He has the ability to create more.
