If Phil was to retire from football tonight, he’d retire with a career that 95% of English footballers to ever play the game could ever dream of.
He’s also at a similar age to when KDB, Aguero, Silva, Yaya all started their City careers.
He’s also my favourite player and I am gutted whenever he’s not in the starting 11.
However, regardless of any off field personal or on field motivation issues, I am starting to believe that Phil will never be the main main for us. The superstar player we look to when things are not going well that inspires everyone else.
He’s a very very good player who thrives in a very very good team, he is almost guaranteed 15 goals and 10 assists a season and that’s more than ok.
He just doesn’t have the aura of a main man like KDB or Aguero and Silva were for us and he’s nearly 25, he still looks at times like a young kid. I think he still gets treated like a kid by his peers as well.
If he stays for the next 10 years he will most likely hold the all time club record appearance record, the clubs most decorated player, most capped player and probably be comfortably number two in the goalscoring charts behind Haaland.
I just hope he has some memorable moments where he was the main man to look back on as well instead of memories of being a very good player in a very good team which is still an amazing accolade.
I feel like Noel Gallagher when he’s interviewed at The Brits “am I happy? No I want more!!”
