47 | Phil Foden - 2024/25

That sounds like an excuse for me because it’s false. Which players who were heavily involved are having a bad season. Especially as bad as Foden? As stated by another poster. Foden gets too many excuses. He is having a HORRIBLE season it’s not even bad it’s a horrible dropoff. He will never be a #10 in my eyes. At least not the #10 people think about. Not a KDB, not a Wirtz, not a David Silva,Sneijder or whatever other 10‘s existed. He is and will always be more of a goal scoring threat and even that is not working this season.
Its not false at all though is it...

Foden, walker, guehi, pickford, stones, rice, Bellingham (who all started every game in the euros) have all been miles off the form they showed last season... Saka and Kane are the only ones showing any kind of form. Again I'm not making an excuse but I don't think its a coincidence.

I agree he's been very poor this season and should be doing much more, but which city player is having a good season and isn't having some kind of drop off?

Foden's lack of awareness when marking is really concerning. He just stands in an open space leaving an opponent free. This creates problem for Rico Lewis who has to manage closing down two players and puts pressure on the team.
Pep alluded to this issue some years ago and unless he sorts this out, he could find himself in the bench again.

At one stage in the second half on Saturday I said to my neighbour in the ground that “I forgot Foden was playing”, he was that anonymous as he has been nearly all season. His drop off in form is one of the most concerning aspects of our season so far for me. It’s a complete mystery.

I recall Phil getting criticism on this forum early last season. He went on to become player of the year.

Now he's not been anywhere near the levels, but I'm sure it'll come back soon. Form is temporary.

Football is weird. Sometimes players just peak and fizzle out fast. Phil has been a favorite for me the past few seasons. He plays with a speed that really just can't be matched. This won't be a popular opinion, but with an overhaul coming it may not be a bad time to sell him to another club in Spain, Italy or Germany.

Does anyone actually know what happened to Phil health-wise at the start of the season? He missed quite a chunk of games and all Pep said was "illness" but to me he looks like whatever it was was pretty serious and that he's still trying to play himself into something resembling even close to full fitness.

Are you really writing him off after 3 months of injury-hit bad form? In a season where the whole squad collectively has been poor and miles off the level we are used to.

Who would you suggest replacing him with that is premier league proven and that wouldn't drain most of the transfer budget?

It is very amusing to watch what Foden did for their 3rd goal if you are a neutral fan.

He’s not been injured, he has been and still is unwell.
