Hardly even noticed him. With him replacing McAtee it's like we might as well have played with 10.
He's still going to start against Madrid though because apparently he doesn't seem to get punished for his performances and effort.
Prime Messi playing where Foden has been on the right would obviously be skinning players for fun. Can’t remember the last time he went past anyone. Not asking for him to be as good as a 35 year old Messi but be nice to see him be positive on the ball again.
Those runs where he would get the ball in a little pocket just inside of the wide players and run at the back line to force them into making a challenge to create space behind or have a go himself is what he's been missing this season. The movement around and ahead of him haven't been good enough in his defense though.

Did he touch it? He will be one very lucky man if he gets a start against Madrid, nowhere near the standards this season. His complete lack of effort off the ball will cost us dearly in the big games coming up and he's simply not good enough offensively to carry him.
Puzzling considering how the Euros went for him and how he played this season until 5-6 weeks ago. Doesn’t look any bit more mature or locked in than when he first broke into the team and milking last season's POTY.

Thought he was a total disgrace yesterday. Unfit and phoning it in. Needs dropping for a month and putting in a boxing boot camp or something. Been weak and sluggish all season and the rumours are getting louder and louder about his lifestyle.

Assuming Bobb and Savinho continue their trajectory, and we bring in a top class central player to replace Kev in the summer, Foden may struggle to get in the team unless he really sorts himself out.
Nah thats impossible.
He definitely needs to tighten up a bit, he didnt seem to take that sub in the FA cup game seriously at all.
But he is an elite goal scorer, Pep will ALWAYS play Foden in a big game.
I am 100% certain of that.

Strange season for him. I know he’s having/had issues so not sure how it affects him game to game but he seems to have energy and plays well then next game completely anonymous and lethargic.

Heard all sorts ranging from family issues, he's grown fond of the beer, depression. I don't take everything at face value but living in Stockport you hear a lot and he doesn't look like he is enjoying his football anymore to me
Only if he deserves. On his pre Christmas form, he didn't deserve to play.
If we sign a big name to replace Kevin, Savio continues to make progress, Bobb and Doku get better, etc., it's far from obvious Foden will start in every big game.
He didn't when he wasn't worse than he's now, in April and May 2023. He was on the bench vs Bayern, Arsenal, Real and Inter.
The simple fact is, under Pep, Phil is a proven goal scorer.
Pep values that so much more than you might think.
Even if his performances dip, and he should do better, he does that thing that prime Kevin did, he gets goal contributions even when playing poorly.
Your referring to nearly 2 years ago when Pep didnt play Phil, thats well before Phil became the monster goal scorer he has become.

Phil was an elite goalscorer for half a season, i.e., in the 2nd half of last season. Hope he can beat Sterling's record of 31 goals in all compets and 21 in the league. To be sure, Sterling wasn't a great goalscorer.
Elite goalscorers are consistent. Foden has the talent to be both a goalscorer and a creator, but something is missing currently. He should be more creative. Let's hope he delivers in the coming big games.
Sterling is up there for City in most goals scored in a season... and he played alot because Pep wants people who score goals, you have basically made my point.
22/23 Season (Foden is 4th in goals scored, behind Alvarez and Mahrez who aren't here)
23/24 Season (Foden is 2nd, clear and above 3rd in goals)
Important to note here is look at his minutes, ridiculous. Pep played him loads because of goals.
24/25 Season
Even though he was injured for a period at the start of the season (hence his minutes is less than a Haaland or Gvardiol), look how quickly once fit Pep played him all the time.
And he STILL 2nd in goals scored
Sure, I'm not disagreeing with you we need him to start creating more.
But my central premise is true, Phil for the last 2.5 years, has been a vital proven goal scorer for Pep, and Pep over the last 2.5 years has slowly made him integral to his plans with loads of minutes.
I honestly did not expect a debate about this in regards to Pep and Phil, figured everyone knew.

Grealish was vital 2 years ago, now he isn't. Whether Foden will be in the team depends on his form.
He fell off a cliff after the end of last season and came to life in January, scoring goals without really shining. Let's hope he gets better. Currently, he's on 7 league goals, level with players like Iwobi. That would be fine if he was doing much more than scoring goals, say like prime David or Bernardo. But he isn't. He's currently like a forward who contributes little when he doesn't score. Let's be honest, much more is expected from him, because he has the talent to both score and create, to torment defences.
