All these people talking about needing to “have a conversation” about Phil will be the same people to call him one of the world’s best when he’s back. Some lad asking has he ever done it in a big game. He has countless times! Same fella votes him for City’s POTY last szn!

Anybody blaming the attacking players for that Madrid game are short sighted.

Pep set them up poorly.

Players in bad positions, bad squad selection, high line but no press.

This Phil hate train is quite ridiculous.

He isn't absolutely world class, though. He's a world class talent.

Foden had half a season where he performed at world class level, between late December 2023 and May 2024. That's about 5 months. Before that he was mostly a really good and highly promising player, but not world class. He started games on the bench when the Treble was decided.

Note that even during those 5 months of rich goalscoring form, he wasn't exactly outstanding in the other aspects of his game. Take both games vs. Madrid last season. He scored an exceptional goal at the Bernabeu and that was everything he did in over 200 minutes. At the Etihad he was poor.

He has the talent to be absolutely world class. But he needs to be a lot more consistent, not just in scoring goals, but also in creating chances. If he isn't consistent, maybe he will benefit from watching Bobb or hopefully Wirtz from the bench.

I agree. it's lazy to just claim some player is world class and it's stupid to remove him from criticism because he's "well liked".

He has had some good games for us over the years and he's a local lad but it doesn't mean that when he doesn't look arsed we can't point that out, top top thumbs up blues might not like that.

"This Phil hate train is quite ridiculous."

What hate train?

Player of the season last year and magnificent, had a shocking Euro's for his country and his form has fallen off a cliff for us.

He set his standards, he has to keep them, that's not hate, that's just elite sport.

There are people on here who think we should sell him, and that he hasn't contributed to our team over the seasons.

Criticizing him is fine. But just because he hasn't reached KdB or David Silva level is quite an unfair label to put on him, no player in the world exists like that. Even Wirtz or Musiala aren't as good as those 2 were.

Saying we should get rid of him is stupid. And before you respond, yes, some people on here are saying that.

If he does not pull his finger out and get back to previous levels it could well be a possibility.

I would say a big 12 months for Mr Fodens career coming up, would you agree he should be one of the focal points of our "new" side?

With Marmoush, Echeverri, Bobb, Savinhio, and possibly Wirtz he has a huge battle on his hands.

What previous levels?

He had last season where he scored a ridiculous number of goals as a second striker, and now he is playing a bit deeper trying to be more of a midfielder.

But before that he has always been a good player for us, but never to that unreasonable level you demand. Doesnt mean we should sell him.

And contrary to what many posters think, he has actually been pretty good this season, when you consider what a travesty it has been for the squad and Pep.

Your insinuation he could be sold tbh is insane.

He will clearly be a staple in our new side next season. Its ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

He's a very good player on his day but I don't think he's elite and unfortunately I don't think he will ever reach that level apart from maybe little flashes here and there.

We all want that more than anything because he's one of our own but I think if you take a step back a minute and imagine he wasn't, a few people would have a different opinion.

I never ever thought I'd say this but we may have made a mistake selling Palmer!

Fuck off sell him. Some total tripe on here. May as well sell the lot cos none of the squad have been on it this season.
They are all clearly fucked, mentally and physically

If last season was his peak ability, then that's more than ok and its pretty elite in my books. This is not directed at you, but in general, too many judge elite by Messi's ridiculous standards. That was Godly not elite.

This season is a write off, I'm not going to judge him too much on that, but he does need consistency and last season is what we now expect.

Correct. This season is a train wreck and he got off to a bad start with fitness issues over the first few months. While the drop off is stark I personally am unconcerned. I think he will be back to his best again in the future.

funny some of the posters wanting him gone along with other home grown talent. But are also the same ones moaning at the lack of youth academy in the players, whilst at the same time moaning about us not doing well

The way he's playing at the moment I thought he'd already left :-)

Or at the very least gone fishin'

Can you imagine the never ending Foden threads if we sold him and he scores or assists, which could be every game. Even better imagine he goes to Chelsea and links up with Palmer. Haha fucking head melting shit. I genuinely cant believe people are saying theyd be ok selling him at 24. Madness

He was our best player last year, and he’s 24 lmao. He’s allowed a bad season. Hazard was shite every other year, this is Phil’s only bad season

Worrying to imagine if we did that

A bad season would be 15 assists 10 goals.

Like Bernardo had an out of this world 2018-19 season.. we knew he'd have a drop off but it was nowhere this bad!

Similarly Haaland.. had an out of this world treble season.. we knew he'd have a drop off but even with a broken leg and out for 2 months.. 27 goals in the league!

But simply no will to hustle and press.. it isn't a bad season.. it's either.. no motivation or he's been run into the ground in the past seasons.

Take your pick and hope he can turn it around, because the list of City players who we loved, who just faded and weren't the same player again is long. Remember Mario Balotelli??
