Your right he, like many hasn't performed to there usual level.
Do you expect him to be able to run past players again? I’m not slagging him off just not really seen a player at his age completely lose that burst of pace(Owen aside). So worried for him it doesn’t come back

Not buying Wirtz might be great for Foden.

Otherwise, he would be played on the wings and he isn't a proper winger, lacks enough pace and dribbling skills.

Let's hope he will bounce back and remind us of his special talent.

I'm guessing we just need fullbacks and an 8 who can actually run. Phil's best when he runs at defenders and makes them think as they're being pushed back towards their own goal or when he gets the ball on the edge of the box against a block. The overload from an overlapping winger/full back and a midfielder inside keeps the defenders honest that they can't fully commit to marking Phil which allows him space to find someone making an unmarked run or a chance to take a shot himself.

What we're watching now is him getting the ball out wide with no movement around him so he's incredibly easy to defend against like Grealish, Savinho and Doku. We slag off all four of them when they have no decent option besides passing back or beating 2 defenders on the end line which is an easier angle to defend from.

Think that some of the senior players shouldn't be touching the pitch much at all during the CWC, but I think Phil is someone who should be playing as much as possible tbh, great chance to just dust off this season and start fresh looking towards next year.

AND he should be playing central only during the tournament, don't wanna see any shite with him out on the wing.

These days yes but he could run and dribble. It’s a big reason why he now looks a shadow of the player he was

Bukayo Saka has 15,079 minutes in the Premier League in his career

Phil Foden
17,739 in the Premier League
Because Foden is literally older than Saka by a year and 3 months and Saka made his debut later than Foden did. It's pretty simple stuff.

When discussing burnout, look at their starts, consecutive starts, whether they get rotated in and out of the team. Saka has the Arsenal record in terms of having 83 consecutive starts and that only stopped when he got injured. It's not comparable.

This constant excusing for Foden when players of his age bracket have death with far more is ridiculous.

If he wasn't a local lad and didn't come through our academy I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't be making all the excuses for him under the sun.

It's been an awful season from him, it's as simple as that.

There was a moment in the last 5 minutes yesterday where he received it on the half way line with loads of space to counter in front of him and he was caught up and shoved to the side like a school boy. Quite sad to see actually.

His confidence is shot and I think that's about it. His dip is in line with the team and as I've said before, I think it's because he's been molded 100% to play Pep's system, it's the only system he's played in senior football.

That's why he's no good for England. That's why when our team has dropped off a cliff, so has he.

get the team firing again and Phil will.

All this talk of underlying issues, problems off the pitch etc people talk about, it sounds like excuses with no substance. He's in the squad or team because he's fit to play, it's just he hadn't got the confidence to do what he did before.

How many times have we seen him in positions where he would usually drive towards goal but now he just plays the pass to the nearest man. That's lack of confidence or some mental block.

Weirdly I think people would be much more defensive of Phil if he'd cost 100 million pounds and was coming off the back of an incredible season that saw him win POTS. City fans have always had a habit of tearing their own down going back decades.

You can actually see it in the respective player threads. Grealish seems to be beloved and can't put a foot wrong no matter how bad he's been for two seasons now, whereas Phil has some utter guff written about him because he's had a tormented season playing in a tormented team. In terms of 'credit in the bank' - Foden's got years of it.
Easy now... Grealish beloved? Have you been to his thread?

He played 5 games before Saka did.
You stated Saka played 4000 minutes more than Foden, well he's actually played considerably less.
You want to look at statistics, but everything points towards Phil having played more and minutes during the same time period as Saka.
You are not a City supporter.

Be interesting to see the reactions if Foden was the £100m signing Grealish was, and vice versa.
Foden got more goals and assists last season than Grealish has managed in his entire City career.

Not being funny but Foden is another class of player entirely and yes, he cost us fuck all, and he’s on less money than Grealish.

Has helped us win our trophies. Cannot deny his impact on that. Plenty have very short memories.
I'm hoping people wouldn't have forgotten his contribution to our recent success. He's had a stinker of a season but let's see what next season brings. If he has another like this then more questions will be raised.

He is not the only one who had a mixed season.

Feels like Phil has struggled with his home/work balance, and possibly fitness, and as a poor lad who has achieved so much so quickly, he may have fallen into a pitfall or two.

Couple that with a team that’s been struggling, and you have a player struggling for form in a team without any consistency.

He has never really been a “grab the game by the throat” type of player in the manner of KDB and Newcastle on his return or Palace at home this season, but he is a game changer who can score from anywhere at any moment.

However, Pep’s “play it safe” approach this season has shackled whatever attacking instincts he has shown on the past and I can’t remember the last player I saw him either dribble or sprint past. That’s not a good combo for an attacking midfielder with international and world class ambitions.

By quite some distance. He's probably being held to a higher standard given his performances last season.
And seasons before that as well. Same as Pep, if he does have another indifferent season then it is the time to re-assess his future.
