But a lot of people have talked about injuries and illnesses, yet he's been in the match day squad most of the time and featured. He played in 45 games in total, so clearly it's not that.

There's talk about his mental health, that could certainly be an issue.

It seems to me he wasn't playing that well, just low on confidence and couldn't really get any momentum going.
It might be "clearly that" ....some injuries can't be operated on, or 'sorted out' , some just niggle, don't go away, or just keep flaring up. Without being bad enough to not play. It may have felt, it had cleared many times between games in training, then as soon as he's upped the intensity in a game, it becomes sore etc again.
If that was the case, whether 'mental illness' or not....it would do anybodys head in!
.....and (if that was the case) his confidence would be low, and he wouldn't gain any momentum.

Yeah was looking sharp in the training video earlier. Class is permanent, he will be back. Not easy to tell from rondos but arguably he is back based on what I saw.
He certainly looks in good spirits, a happy Phil enjoying playing football is all any of us want to see, and from that the rest will follow because his natural talent is there in spades.

I still maintain he will end up our top appearance maker and most decorated player by the end of his career

I don't even think Foden needs to rush back the heights of the 23/24 season, to be honest.

He's just experienced his worst year since graduating into the first team, but he still contributed 16 G/A in 31 starts. His drop in form was just felt so keenly because everyone else around him also dropped off a cliff at the same time.

If he can bump those numbers up to 25 G/A in 40 starts, we'll be laughing, especially if Haaland, Marmoush, Reijnders, Cherki, Savinho, etc. and even Rodri, can bump their own numbers up. It'll surely take some pressure off him.

His downturn in form - presumably a result of some health issues (physical and mental) - coincided with De Bruyne, Bernardo, and Gundogan having bad seasons in terms of output. He got little help from Doku, Savinho, and Grealish.

During 23/24 we turned to Phil, Haaland, and Alvarez during those autumn/winter months while De Bruyne was out and luckily they all turned up. During 24/25 we asked a lot of Foden during a bad period for him individually.

Hopefully, after a break, he's out of his funk now and hopefully the additions of Marmoush, Cherki, and Reijnders, and the return of Bobb, can ease the strain on him a bit and help him play with a bit more freedom going into 25/26.

We still sing "Benjani, woooah" now and again after his one goal against united 17 years ago! Foden has 6 against that mob, including a hat trick! Plus 2 goals that literally won us the title last year.

I will say, the Boss 'Dancing in the Dark' chant got going a bit towards the end of 23/24 season, but once England fans started singing it too we seemed to lose interest.

The situation needs sorting ASAP!
It does but ‘singing a chant’ about a player is not an accurate barometer of their popularity. Sometimes people just like the chant. David Silva, never had a recurring chant about him (David dilfe ole for a short period) and he was also universally loved.

See the media are at it again with negative stories. Foden to leave - maybe to Arsenal! Sports Bible looking for clicks hopefully

Foden should start next season on the bench IMO, its on him to earn his place back in the team.

What a weird thing to say.

I would expect Pep's gonna pick the team for the first game based on who is playing best over the next 2 months, not who was playing best in May. If Foden's one of the best players in training and friendlies then why would he not start?

Shouldn't really be a surprise to read opinions like that on here. Really have to wonder at such thinking.
