47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Yeah, considering its just a pre-season game, those were still encouraging signs.

He looked like old phil.

Agree...seemed to play with a smile on his face yesterday. Not as clinical as he we've normally seen him on his left.

Also noticed him turning into one of the leaders when being subbed off by encouraging everyone to keep up the tempo. Perhaps with some of the 'old-guards' departing he's coming out of his shell on & off the pitch.

He was showing for the ball a lot more than last season and taking the ball on the turn, arguably his best attribute. He's probably the best in the game at being able to take the ball on the turn in a split second and put defences on the back foot.

Last season he was hardly doing that and just laying it off as quick as possible to the nearest player. Clearly a confidence issue.

He wasn't spectacular by any means, but looked more like his normal self.
He was back to finding pockets between the lines and his link up play witn reijnders was excellent. Much to like.

I think which Foden shows up this year could have a massive bearing on our season. The additions plus Foden & Rodri for 23/24 would be something else.

I thought he looked very keen, energetic, demanding the ball. These are all good signs. Ive said before it should be his team and if he's the player we know he can be then it'll be like a new signing for us this season.

With the options we have now he has to show up or he won’t be playing.
That's exactly how I see it, this season is pivotal for him

He has the players around him now to really flourish, so we should see him reignite himself and show everyone what he can do

However, another season like last season and he'll rightly find himself on the bench

Let's hope it's the former as it makes us a much better side

He lacks the passing, intelligence and mentality of being the 'main man'. Best he can do is be a secondary playmaker like Bernardo.

???
Foden was the PFA player of the year in 2024.

Our squad is loaded with talent - but I wouldn't write Foden off from returning once more to top form, becoming the PFA player of the year next season - even considering that we have Haaland and Rodri in our side.

Welcome back, Phil Foden!

Even just the last 5 minutes of that game shows it - getting the ball on the turn and driving at players/their defence. Everything he lacked last season yet everything he excels out and makes him stand out.

Shame about the finish at the end but that'll happen, at least he was in the position and up with Haaland.

should have been put in the roof of the far corner.. poor finish but right place, looks lively.

That cross to force Haaland to chase was mint. Sadly Haaland is developing Pep- itis :( He is begining to not expect the ball early anymore. He just assumed Phil will do the regular City thing and recycle the ball.

Phil was like, nahhhh fam, we need more goals.. Go get that cross :) Loved it

A few times last night Haaland was flat-footed from crosses from the left. And to be fair, he’s been used to Doku (who won’t use his left), Grealish (again, won’t use his left) and Gvardiol (not one to whip a cross in) for the past few seasons.

I presume (hope) that now he’s starting to see RAN bombing down the left, he’ll be on his toes a bit more. Especially to the near post…

Very encouraging signs in the first 2 games. Lively and getting in pockets, he looks like he wants to play again.

He's looked so much sharper and in general just fresh so far at the CWC.

Going to be like having a new 100m signing with him back this season.
