47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

I don’t think some people on here understand football. Forest went out to press every time City got the ball, so even the best players in the World would struggle to create chances. When chances came, Forest defended as if their lives depended on it. I don’t think any City player had a bad game, and after all we won. Foden looked decent to me.

The fact we are going into games where throughout the 90 min both him and cherki are moving in and around the pockets is absurd, good luck to the other team.

Thought he had a more than decent game. Over the whole 90, he was our most consistent attacking threat, looked lively, worked hard enough, no issues with him in my eyes.

Really unlucky not to score a stunning team goal and i'm sure opinions would have been much more favourable for those people who value the stats more than anything had it gone in. did everything right in that moment just a very impressive save denied him.

I don't really get some people on this forum. Foden must have done something to them because if he doesn't play like prime KDB, they flock to their keyboards.

He's playing out of position due to Doku's injury. Not much of a point reading into his performances. Even still, he played good.

Went he went central he was the best player on the pitch… pretty much the same as every other game this season.

The best number 10 in the league (probably the world alongside Pedri). Has to play there every week for me, regardless of injuries.
They are not comparable at all. Pedri is an 8 and Foden is a 10. Barça's entire game revolves around Pedri, much like Xavi did in his day, except that Pedri also has something of Iniesta in him. For us, when he's not injured, Rodri plays that role. When Rodri comes back, Foden and Cherki will have to learn to play the number 8 role and alternate so that one can play 8 and the other can play attacking midfielder, and then we'll be a bloody war machine.

Imo Foden has a brilliant shot, can turn on a dime and has graceful close control when moving at speed with the ball.

On the other hand he isn't great at creative passing (often the right idea but just not perfectly timed or weighted), gets confused as to what to do next sometimes , doesn't work hard enough in helping the defense sometimes (like getting back via Forest before they scored) and is one of the worst for complaining to other players or demanding the ball when in impossible positions.

But all players have faults. Otherwise there'd be no goals or nothing but goals.

The great thing is that we now have Cherki to make the most of Foden. Foden can now forget about being a primary creator and instead focus on getting into goal scoring positions to do what he is phenomenal at.

(Reijnders is a similar player imo so I'd tend to not play Foden and Reijnders together once Doku is back. It should be either of the 2. At the moment Foden is better but hopefully Reijnders catches up.)

So much debate just because he wasn't spectacular yesterday.

He was fine. Nothing to write home about but I'd day that for a good 7 or 8 of the players yesterday.

He was alright. Not a fan of him on the left, but we aren't really spoilt for choice at the moment.

Foden is good at many things, excellent at scoring goals and world-class at getting the ball in his stride and shooting from distance.

Without Doku, it’s clear Pep wants O’Reilly playing up the left flank and Foden tucking in as an inside forward. However, we have been so careless with possession lately that we are constantly having to turn around and run back towards our own goal. Therefore, O’Reilly is back at left back and nobody is on the left wing so Foden has to move out a bit but because O’Reilly isn’t up supporting him we’re a body light in midfield and this is where we’ve been struggling.

Don’t get me wrong, Foden was as guilty as anyone at being careless with possession and giving the ball away in the first half yesterday, but this is why the shape of our attacks aren’t good and we look a bit disjointed at the moment.

If we realised that the football is the most important thing in this sport and we should cherish it like it’s sacred, in other words, stop fucking giving the ball away needlessly, we could get into our shape more in attack and Foden would be able to play more centrally as O’Reilly holds the left flank and Gvardiol covers the left back area.
