47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

This is a win:win. If shows him continued commitment at his worst and protects his value/stops him fancying an wasy fresh start somewhere else which would have been sad to see and particularly bad for squad planning, home grown and club trained etc.

He’s probably got the summer off, so come back in as best shape as he can and we get to see where he’s at. Really hope he can do it…. Dele Alli had other troubles ofcourse but a clear example how you can go from top to bottom.
 
If the reports are true, excellent news. But he has to deliver now. He's had, by his high standards, two poor seasons. I'm assuming he'll have the summer off. So he needs to have a couple of weeks somewhere hot and sunny, recharge the batteries, and report for pre season raring to go.

He's got to pull his weight more ie Defense, off the ball work no matter who's the boss.

Never ceases to amaze me, the spin the media put on any story. Any non City fan who hasn't been following developments could think "Oh, are they trying to sell him?". Why not say "Man City make Phil Foden contract decision"?

For precisely that reason. Nobody outside of City fans will click on an article that says Phil signs new contract, but they'll all want to know where he's going if he's off

shouldn't have got a pay rise, and its a bit rich of phil to ask for one in the current circumstances tbh but I suppose he was always going to, and club cant risk letting him go.

Last big contract of his career why wouldnt he ? I guess the decision would of been above Viana , I reckon Khaldoon has been involved in this one.
 
Glad he has signed but needs to do it on the pitch now. My concern is it's very rare for a player to have 2 very poor seasons and then somehow just return to his best, particularly when the downturn doesn't seem related to a physical injury. Anyway, he's got lots of credit in the bank and we all want him back to his best so hopefully he has a rest this summer and comes back in July/August ready to set the world alight again.

He really is.

This season he has 13 goals, 5 assists. Last season he had 10 goals and 5 assists.

Same goal contributions as Doku who everyone is saying is unplayable.

Delighted he’s signed. He needs to play ahead of Semenyo for the run in. Get him back to what he’s best at. Cutting inside and arriving late in the box.

All that shows is stats aren’t everything. Unless you think Pep is clueless
 
We all love Phil, we all want him to succeed. We know he has the quality to do it and hopefully he finds some answers. But this isn’t without risk. What message does getting a long term contract and pay rise on the back of two very poor seasons (6 weeks pre Xmas aside) send to others across the squad? Does it not raise the expectations of those currently performing about what they can expect? In fairness they didn’t have any wriggle room - let him leave and he flourishes again they look daft. In 18 months he could be in line for a ballon dor or on loan at Everton. Waiting game.

Tbf I think everyone understands that Phil is a unique case.

The star of the academy. The chance to go down as the club's most decorated and potentially best ever player.

Plus if as many have suggested its been about long term health issues I'd imagine most of his squad mates have a lot of sympathy for him.

I'd actually think discarding him would be a much worse look for the current players and the academy guys.

Phil at top, POTY, form is still possibly the best player in the squad. Even at the new wages it's maybe a safer bet than buying a new guy, for 100m+ and then giving them those wages.
