Didn't have much to do but looked confident and composed. Played some good passes forward, brought the ball out from defence and played the ball quickly. He also looked a lot quicker than he was, whether that's due to improved fitness or the opposition I'm not sure but he recovered ground really well.

Great to see.
 
He's gone from being surrounded by options that, to be frank, were just not good enough at CB (Otamendi, Garcia, Ferna - love Ferna, just he's not a CB) to suddenly surrounded by high quality, ultra capable professionals. Dias, Ake - in addition to Laporte of course. If that doesn't focus him i'm not sure what will. Good signs so far.

I’ve been amongst his biggest critics but would love it if he could turn his career around. He has always had the talent IMO but lacked the mentality.
 
When John plays consistently without an injury - he is one of the best defenders in the world..

It's funny how everything changed radically in 2-3 months..

Now the most stable and covered area is central defense, where the club has 4 top class central defenders.. :D <3
 
The quality that we now have in the back 4 might be what helps him get back to his best and maybe beyond. In someways the signing of Dias and Ake, the return to fitness of Laporte has actually taken the pressure off him. The only way it has increased is that he will now have to play very well to get a place in the side, perhaps its easier for him to do that when he is surrounded by seriously decent defenders.
 
We'll get him fit,we'll get his confidence back where it should be,and we'll have him playing like the Rolls Royce we thought he was......then,knowing our luck,he'll fuck off on a free transfer.
 
JS has always looked a better player with a commanding centre back partner. He now has 3 potentially alongside him in Laporte, Dias + Ake . If we can get the confidence back in scoring goals we are set for a really good season
