Let's not get too carried away here. Stones has faced only Fulham and Burnley who barely had a kick and therefore put very little pressure on our defenders. Let's see how he plays when the pressure is on against top quality attackers.
He played against a vicious unforgiving Porto side who had a lot of pent up anger and animosity towards us and came through with flying colours. Stones has previously very capably demonstrated his ability as a footballer. Perhaps it would be good for us to actively support and encourage players who are showing guts and drive playing for the football team we support? Just an idea.

He didn’t actually play against Porto, the mighty Garcia did. He did play against a Greek side who were even shitter than Burnley and Fulham though. The first test for him is this Saturday. If people are cynical it’s because we’ve seen these spells many times before over 4 and a half years from Stones only for him to come up short too often when the pressure is on. He’s had one consistent spell in all the time he’s been here.

Here’s hoping this time it lasts but it’s far too early to say at the moment.

I can see where your name came from, not the best judge of centre backs!

You are right he didn’t, but let’s praise him anyway. He has been good so far in the games he’s played and for that he gets credit from me.

Loving see the players who get a lot of stick blossoming by getting game time

stones
mendy
mahrez
gundo
Three out of the four have had substantial long term injuries, two have been career threatening. They have shown great strength of character to get back to the level of playing for a top Premier League side. Mahrez has got no excuse, but good to see him back on form also.
