Good first half but a couple of very worrying signs in the second with him switching off. A start though and hopefully he can build his confidence from here
I wouldn’t say he was switching off I would say that the defense were getting destroyed by the left side and toare running at mendy. At one point you could even see him shacking his head bc all the treat was that side.. I think for being out for so that long he did brilliantly. Still can’t believe Garcia played over him against LyonGood first half but a couple of very worrying signs in the second with him switching off. Spot on mate.
I could not have described it better. In the first half, which was his better, he made 2 mistakes that almost led to a goal. Second half was just awful, our luck is that Wolves did not take advantage of the opportunities. A better team will take advantage of that for sure. People look at his accuracy percentage and think or try to convince themselves he played well. I can also pass to the goalkeeper or to the second CB with 90% accuracy. I hope we won't use Stones too much this year
The period of poor defending coincided with the midfield and attack giving the ball away easily and being caught out of position.
That enabled Podence and Traore to get in more dangerous areas to hurt us. Once we started to retain the ball better the defence was solid again.
Overall I was happy with Stones and I didn't see any glaring individual errors. Wolves created chances through good team play and one player isn't responsible for that.
Look at the one on one that the Wolves player chipped over the bar. In our system a centre back will often be in that position no matter who is in midfield or at fullback. Once again Stones was badly exposed for his lack of pace and poor reading of the game. He‘s simply not good enough and thankfully Pep has realised it too.
