Laughable to think that 18 months ago there were many fans wanting him gone. He is without a doubt our best central defender - fantastic so far this year.

I think you’ve misremembered the length of time ago that was… 18 months ago, he was in the midst of playing 35 games and banging in the goals on the way to a league title win, an EFL Cup win and a CL final.

The last time I remember City fans been rather ambivalent to whether to stayed or left was around 2017.

Summer we signed Dias he was pretty much written off. Him and Otamendi together was turning into a disaster, Fernandinho was preferred over him and his private life seemed to have sucked all the energy out of him. We offered him to both Everton and West Ham if i'm not mistaken and he chose to stay and fight for his place, which a lot of people on here didn't understand at all because Laporte was fit again and we had Koulibaly on the way.

Koulibaly didn't happen, Ruben came to mixed response and they turned into the best CB partnership we have seen in a long, long time. Funny game football

That's back when he would have random brain farts due to a lack of concentration. He was clearly a gifted defender back then but maybe not one for an elite club. But I can't remember the last time he actually messed up for club or country it's been that long.

Stones has recovered from his horrible mistakes. He's been rock solid at CB - and playing out of position can at least provide cover at RB. Stones is indispensable to our side.
