I was trying to think of another defender in world football who does what he does, and there isn't one. Yet. Players will probably be coached now to play "the John Stones role", which will be a huge compliment to him, but also clearly a difficult ask for any player.

Probably the 2nd best I've seen at it is Akanji. He's some way off John, but if John didn't exist we'd all be saying how great Akanji is at it.

Stones has been really unlucky with niggling injuries. I just hope he can keep injury free for the rest of the season because we're a much better team when he plays.

He's fucking class!!! I've become so used to him just running the midfield with Rodri, despite being a CB that I'm now criticising him for not playing through balls or taking a shot on as if he's De Bruyne!!!

I thought that the other day - it's the irony that he's become so good at progressing with the ball, that he's now getting in positions where he needs to learn another new role!
