Stones has made 4 tackles in the league and Champions league combined this year. Akanji made 4 tonight.... on top of creating 3 chances(Stones 1 this season)... he did better than this seasons John would have.

The only difference is that teams are now targeting that role by having a forward come from behind to try to rob the man, be it Stones or Akanji. It's not coincidence. No matter how good the central defender is, he's accustomed to facing the play and dragging opponents in from his sides and in front, not looking over his shoulder to see 360.. It's one of the reasons Akanji now takes off like a scalded cat the moment he sees space. I suspect that role might be coming to its natural.You know he “dallies” on the ball for a purpose don’t you?
