Can see how much of a leader he has become. It used to be said he needed someone beside him to guide him through games. He is that player now. He brings so much calm to the defence. Positionally great today, perfect in possession and don’t recall him losing a duel all afternoon. When he’s at this level he’s our best centre back.

Words fail me.
What a performance. Is this man Bionic?
Absolutely Brilliant, old school Centre back tough as nails but, with the highest quality modern midfield , movement and passing.
Incredible. One of the finest performance I've ever seen.
Great performance: unfortunately, Bionic , he is not.

Imperious and definite MOTM!

Oh wait, Savinho was absolutely ridiculous and had he been a little greedy, might had scored a few.

Oh wait, Marmoush scored a 13 minute hat-trick in the first half!

Good day at the office for all, but seeing Johnny, Johnny Stones still playing like this warms the cockles of her heart!

Rodri was obviously a huge miss, but Stones probably was as missed for large parts of this season when injured or unfit.
They say Pep just buys great players, or was lucky to somehow suddenly inherit amazing youth players at Barca.

But nobody thought Rodri or Stones would become so great when Pep brought them over.
I thought John Stones would become great under Pep,I was very impressed with the signing .
Ball playing centre backs who can also Defend, are rare. Truly gifted players such as John Stones,Kevin Beatiee
and dare I say it,.Duncan Edwards, are Men who take a football team onto a different level.,
I have to say,the day Pep signed Stones, made me think I was going to see Futuristic football at Manchester City
I was right,lol

John Stones was very ropey defensively when he first arrived. Pep's coaching definitely helped develop him into the all-round defender we see today.

Arguably England's most talented player of this era. Only let down by poor injury record. People always boast about this England generation and all these supposed world class players, many of which are not in reality. Ability wise, Stones is. Defenders don't get the same praise but in terms of relative positions, he's as good as any English player in his era.

If he was from another country, everyone would be wanking over his abilities

He’s also been Englands best centre half during their recent resurgence

He’s massively underrated ,it’s a shame that some players just can’t shake off injuries and they dog them for their whole careers

Other world class centre half’s have suffered with Ledley King and Paul McGrath being some notable names from the past

Woodgate another. Excellent ability and was better than Wio Ferdinand and co. but could rarely stay fit and didn't live the life off it by all accounts.

Having seen Duncan Edwards play and cried when he was killed I can only agree with you. Two of the very best footballers for England I have ever seen.
Thank you. :-)

We got him when he was what 21, 22? Was just a kid back then next to Vinnie and Otamendi. Amazing to see how much he has grown since then.

There is some footage somewhere of Edwards playing for England v Scotland ?at Wembley
This huge man mountain of a player ,.advanced from the centre back line and strode with purpose with the ball
at his feet through midfield....it was brilliant. Every other player looked up to him,or just looked inferior.....
That's ,my fleeting video glimpse of Duncan Edwards, around 1954 I think.
How did you rate Bobby Moore ,.against the two you mention?
