De Bruyne, Silva, Kompany, Aguero have special places in my heart and in the history of the club, but there's just something about Stones. Came in and looked like he was out of his depth and a waste of money, yet here we are today. I'll stick my neck out and say he was our best player during the treble season and has delivered some incredible moments in the last 6 years. We're a team of empty shirts without him on the pitch half the time and that dressing room is going to have some soul searching to do after this season with how it's played out and losing someone like Stones.

Of all the things we've missed this season, having none of that 2023 Walker - Stones - Rodri trio behind the midfield has killed us. That's exactly what made our attackers so confident, that any of those three would get it back and control the game. He has to go because he's just never, ever, ever fit, but god I love him.

I’m considering very carefully if you get a slice of birthday cake. If you hadn’t put the first part of your last sentence you would have been a shoe in for a slice. :-)

Oh, Jonny. Was desperate we’d sign him the moment I saw him for Everton.

An absolute Rolls Royce of a footballer. Beautiful to watch in full flow. Immense mentality, ridiculous quality and a leader.

That run-in for the treble was something extraordinary. Played some sort of false full back position but bossing the midfield every week. Then he did the same for 80 minutes against Madrid a few months back when he played the 6 role.

Most dribbles in a Champions League final. He’s a defender! What a joy to have watched him go from the young kid with the weight of the world on his shoulders in 2016 into Jonny fucking Boulders and one of the world’s best defenders.

Wish we’d keep him just to coach the younger players but I guess he’s not at that stage in his career yet.

Genuinely gutted.

I absolutely love John Stones. As good a CB as we’ve had and only because of injuries we won’t really class him as an absolute legend. Been the perfect Pep player and makes the game look so easy at times and a big part of some great City sides over the last 8/9 years.

Great defender and like Vinny injuries have robbed us and him of so much more. You just know he will move clubs and have 4 years of constant footy now.

Its from of the same sources - Football Insider, Deadline Day Live. Rumors are West Ham or Everton. A great player when healthy. I think its time. He just can't be relied upon.

You may have a slice of birthday cake partly because I know you are going to be as sad as me if he does go. But nil desperandum don’t always believe rumours.

I think awful lot will depend on what the medical team say about his prospects of getting fit and staying fit.

I agree with what you're saying, but unfortunately he has to be replaced 2/3s of the season because he simply can't stay fit. If he does go it's more about fitness than ability
