5 | John Stones - 2025/26

Over the last few seasons Stones has been unavailable for us a large proportion of the time. I think this is the key feature not that he does seem to be able to join up with England squads and may get injured. We pay him a lot of money and no longer get anything close to a return on that. I think he has been a good servant for the club but I certainly would not place him anywhere near legend status, apologies Eccles Blue, and at this stage imo is very much surplus to requirements. Longevity is probably not a good term but perhaps sustainability is.
It's Kompany all over again whereas one of our best players gets himself fit, but is then injured on international duty, gets himself fit and then rinse and repeat.

They need to remember who is their employer.

I think you should only be eligible for England if you have been available for above a % of matches.
Surely they have to be able to.fullfil a minimum contractual requirement to be eligible to volunteer.

That's like being too sick for work but able to undertake the same task for a charity organisation.

Never stuck me as a coach but you never know. Given his injury record particularly recently it would be grossly negligent to offer the man a contract extention.

Yeah agreed. He’s relatively young and I’m sure a club will be willing to take a punt on him purely because of how good he is when available. Maybe playing in a deeper defensive line would prolong his career/gametime etc.

Do we know how serious this injury is or if it’s just a knock/precaution? I’d take a guess that he’ll be first choice for Tuchel regardless of how much he’s played this year so maybe he’s sent him home to try and stay fit and pick up a bit more game time with City until the end of the season. I hope that’s true as he’s earned it for both City and England.

Mostly injured playing for us this season.

I guess the last game against Villa will be his swan-song too along with Bernado. Two absolutely pivotal players in our success.

Was always going to be the case, but losing Stones and Bernardo going in the same summer is quite sad even compared to some of the more recent departures of our legends.

Load of fucking rubbish.

John Stones does want John Stones wants to do.A strong man.
From Barnsley,no real genuine affection for City, why would he be ?

He is a Professional Footballer.Who ,every time he steps on the pitch did he best to defend
For Barnsley Everton City and England.had the balls to refuse the Covid Jab
.stood his Ground.Tough,mentally and Physically.
I have no idea why any Manchester City Fan would say a bad word about John Stones
Decent defender.Proper man.who knows his mind....,..
One of the greatest Central defenders to ever play football for City.
