5 subs from next season

The fact we were the only top European league to revert back to 3 just shows you how much of a backward decision it was and how dated and resistant to change we are. Its become so obvious it's for the best now that even we can't ignore it any longer, it's embarrassing it took this long.

The popukar morons view from last season of it only helping the better sides which was spouted out by nearly every single clueless pundit, carragher, ferdinand etc has been shot down by some managers of those teams suggesting it actually benefits them more if anything. City and Liverpool, the two best teams in the league routinely rely on grinding teams down, they'll spend 45 minutes tiring the opposition out so they can benefit second half, that tactic is seriously negated if the opposition can bring on half a new outfield team.

In a world where we are asking players to play more and more and seeing more and more injuries because of it, it's almost negligent to not have 5 subs at this point. Studies show you're far more likely to get injuries after 70 minutes once fatigue sets in, this helps to drastically reduce that. We should see a noticeable decline in muscle injuries within 2 seasons of this, let's just hope the people in charge don't see it as an opportunity to introduce even more games into the schedule. There's also the opportunity to give more youth players time in the pitch which everybody screams out for, until there's a chance to actually make it happen then most don't want it.

Who will be the first pundit to come out and say this is bad and then flip when they realise how stupid they are? My moneys on Ferdinand, give it 6 months and he will be telling everybody he lead the campaign for it.
Exactly. How many times do we see overly defensive opponents collapse after an hour because we have physically and mentally exhausted them through possession?
Allowing the shithouse teams to bring on more fresh legs helps them much more than us

I personally don’t like it. Too much stopping and starting in the second half of games and slows the continuity of the game down. This will lead to a lots more sportsmanship such as the late subs in the last few minutes to slow a game down.

Yeah pep wanted 5 subs but what got me was the palace game made zero subs and his explanation to why he never made a sub was they were do fine and didn’t want to upset the balance.

He's always been consistent on this. He makes changes when he wants to change the way the game is going.

In games when we are knocking on the door, camped outside the opposition box, with no threat from them on the break, he doesn't want to change that.

Fans want the scoreline to change so they're desperate for someone to come on and change the game, but Pep believes if we keep dominating and keep knocking on the door one will go in eventually and he's almost always correct.

The number of substitution breaks stays the same (3) with 5 subs so it doesn't add any more breaks or opportunities to make late subs.

You have to go 2+2+1 or 1+1+3 etc.

Most games will now last over 100 minutes. There will be so many stoppages in play games will have no flow or momentum. Most teams use subs as time outs and this will just make it worse.
Just like in the CoViD-hit season, teams will only be able to make substitutions at three points during a game, plus at halftime, so there will be no more interruptions than at present.

Oh right. Fair enough. I didn’t know that so thanks for the clarity.

I'm torn on this one.

I used to be able to set my watch for 60mins when Pep made his first substitution, now he seems to have an aversion to subs.

We have a big enough squad, so it probably benefits us and benefits the players who have a lot of games to fit into a season (and a World Cup year) and gives more opportunities to those players on the fringe.

However I remember when we didn't have a big squad of superstars, if 5 subs existed when we were promoted in 2002, I wonder how many games that we drew or won, we might have lost to another team with the luxury of bringing on 5 top notch players. Of course, that's all conjecture. But I feel this does very much favour the top 6 clubs.

Is making me laugh all the journalists saying it's killing the game etc

They moaned and moane for VAR for years and it's a steaming pile of shit, worst thing to happen since all seater grounds

So you will be allowed to change 50% of your outfield players in a game that lasts 90 minutes with a 15 minute break at half time? An absolute joke. Why not just go the whole hog and make the game like ice hockey where the substitutions are made 'on the fly'?
