50 Years ago today. Chelsea v City FA cup

Remember the game very well although I was not there but it brings back some very happy memories. My sister (Liz) got married that day to Tony (a Spurs fan) so I was unable to go. They were married in London and had their reception at the Hop Pole in Enfield. At 3pm my younger brother (Ian) said he was not feeling to well so I said I would go and sit in a car with him until he felt better. Fortunately the car had a radio and we were able to listen to the commentary, my dad would pop out every 15 minutes to check the score, by 4:45 he was feeling much better and we back into the pub. My Dad and brother are no longer with us, my sister and brother in law still remind me of the day and I think have now forgiven me.

I remember that weekend for all the wrong reasons.

My maternal grandmother was staying with us as my grandfather was in hospital - we received a phone call on the Sunday morning to say he'd died, and so my sister and I were farmed out to my paternal grandparents, and so I saw the ITV highlights there in the afternoon.

He was the first of my grandparents to go.

He certainly scored a blinder in that seasons league game. A cross shot volley as it wss described in the cup programme.
Seen it on tele a few times just lately.
Easy to get the two mixed up, it was that long ago.
Did we win both games 3-0?
I obviously remember the blinder just not which game lol

That was the high water mark of that season as I recall, we had a horrendous run of injuries in February snd March. We put a virtual reserve side out against Liverpool for a night match at Maine Rd. We finished pot less which was disappointing after the previous three years, and the ECWC semi against Chelsea was the first of many major disappointments.

Nice story, and best wishes to your sister for her Golden Wedding Anniversary.
